WASHINGTON, April 3, 2019 /Christian Newswire/ — Family Research Council (FRC) today joined a coalition of 67 conservative leaders and organizations in releasing an open letter to news organizations, calling on the media to stop using data from the discredited Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) which has been exposed from within as having a culture of long-standing, long-ignored racial discrimination and sexual harassment. The unraveling scandal has so far claimed the organization’s founder, its president, and a top attorney.

The letter reads in part:

 

“In September 2017, a group similar to the one signing below wrote a public letter to warn the news media about the untrustworthy and corrupt nature of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). We suggested then that you refrain from using the SPLC as a source. Some news organizations and individuals became more circumspect about the SPLC, but, unfortunately, some did not. That said, 2017 and 2018 produced several publications marking the beginning of a much-needed reassessment of the SPLC’s self-appointed standing as America’s arbiter of ‘hate.’

“The SPLC’s ability to deflect and parry seems to have ended with its March 13 firing of Morris Dees, its co-founder and leader for almost five decades. Dees’ termination was accompanied by a terse, opaque pronouncement…Dees’ firing was not the only shoe to drop. Within ten days both the president, Richard Cohen, and the legal director, Rhonda Brownstein, had left the SPLC.

“In response to this inner upheaval, Morris Dees was fired unceremoniously. Next, the management hired Michelle Obama’s former chief of staff, attorney Tina Tchen, to investigate its workplace culture. This choice raises serious concerns about the neutrality of the investigation. And the choice appears particularly problematic given Tchen recently making headlines for interfering with the Chicago Police Department’s Jussie Smollett investigation.

“If SPLC is interested in restoring its lost credibility with the public and remaining SPLC staff, an SPLC-initiated investigation should include…a responsible investigator to examine the various news reports over the years that have pointed to deep flaws in the SPLC and publicly lay out who within the Center knew what and when about these work conditions.

“It (SPLC) attacks anyone who disagrees with its far-left agenda, smearing them with lies and grossly mischaracterizing their work. All the while SPLC has also been imploding from within, with allegations of sex and race discrimination – which have hounded them for years – finally boiling over with the firing of Dees and the resignation of Cohen.

“SPLC has lost all credibility. We call on all media, corporations, social media companies, and financial institutions to immediately stop relying on their discredited and partisan ‘hate’ and ‘extremist’ lists.”

Mastercard has reportedly forced funding platform Patreon to kick conservative author and “Jihad Watch” owner Robert Spencer off its site.

 

“My name is April and I’m on the Trust & Safety team here at Patreon. I’ve been notified by Mastercard that we must remove your account from Patreon, effective immediately,” wrote Patreon in an email to Spencer. “Mastercard has a stricter set of rules and regulations than Patreon, and they reserve the right to not offer their services to accounts of their choosing. This is in line with their terms of service, which means it’s something we have to comply by.”

 

GoFundMe

 

After Patreon banned me without explanation, I set up a GoFundMe account, with the same goal in view of constructing a studio for Jihad Watch videos, and quickly raised over $3,000. …

But today, I got this:

I also got multiple notices from GoFundMe; each informed me that a particular donation to me from a particular person had been refunded.

 

When I asked for a reason why they had canceled my withdrawal and were refunding all the donations to me, they did not, of course, answer.

The fascism is coming down fast. I’ve now been banned from Patreon and GoFundMe. MasterCard and Visa have stopped processing donations for the David Horowitz Freedom Center.

Why? Because David Horowitz and I are defamed as “hate group leaders” by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which is now strong-arming businesses to deny service to us. The SPLC has been discredited as a dishonest, far-Left propaganda outfit determined to destroy all those who dissent from its Leftist agenda, but that doesn’t matter: these companies are allowing no appeal, no discussion, no right to reply.

This will by no means end with David Horowitz and me. The authoritarian Left is working energetically now to ban all dissenting voices in the run-up to the 2018 elections.

If this keeps up, only Leftists will be allowed any kind of platform anywhere.

It’s clear that I am one of the principal people in the Left’s crosshairs. Muslim Brotherhood-linked Congressman Keith Ellison has already demanded that Amazon stop stocking books by people who are blacklisted by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

I wrote The History of Jihad From Muhammad to ISIS as a challenge to the elites’ narrative about jihad and Islam. And it’s clearer every day now that the elites are brooking no challenges to their narrative, and are moving as fast as they can to muzzle the people who refute their lies and distortions.

Citizens beware: MasterCard and Visa cross the line into totalitarian thought control

Like many people, my inbox has been flooded by concerned citizens about David Horowitz and Robert Spencer over MasterCard and Visa, blocking their flow of revenue needed for daily operations. Spencer stated:

 

This is getting very serious. It won’t stop with David Horowitz or me. The Left is moving quickly to silence all dissenting voices in the run-up to the 2018 elections. The freedom of speech is the foundation of a free society, and it is rapidly being destroyed in the United States.

 

To add to the heartfelt concerns of those who respect the work of these stalwart defenders of freedom and human rights, all citizens would do well to recognize that the actions of MasterCard and Visa are also a slap in the face to their customers. These companies have infringed upon the rights of anyone who supports the cause of freedom and the efforts of Horowitz and Spencer. Customers who choose to donate to these necessary initiatives have been told that they are financing “hate” and therefore are stripped of their right to donate. They have been dictated to by MasterCard and Visa, who are acting as if they do not have the right to think for themselves as long as they want to use the services of MasterCard and Visa.

 

As totalitarianism overshadows America, no one can say that they were not forewarned. Both Horowitz and Spencer have been sounding the alarm for years; the Muslim Brotherhood plan for North America has been public knowledge for years. Its Explanatory Memorandum is expansive and detailed in describing its mission:

 

“The process of settlement is a ‘Civilization-Jihadist Process’ with all the word means. The Ikhwan [Muslim Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and “sabotaging” its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

 

9/11 “mastermind” Khalid Sheik Mohammed stated:

 

“We will win because Americans don’t realize . . .we do not need to defeat you militarily; we only need to fight long enough for you to defeat yourself by quitting.”

 

Mohammed was correct. Far too many citizens of the West have quit — they take their freedoms of granted and are in denial, having not learned the lesson of history that fascism is insidious and does not take control of societies suddenly, as many seem to think. Its invasion is methodical and gradual.

 

Some examples of how businesses have joined the totalitarian initiative:

 

Kellogg Co. announced on November 2016 its decision to pull ads from Breitbart “because its 45,000,000 monthly conservative readers are not ‘aligned with our values as a company.’” Here we see Kellogg’s attempting to control the thoughts of citizens and impose its values on consumers. Fortunately, Breitbart “launched a #DumpKelloggs petition and called for a boycott of the ubiquitous food manufacturer, which lead to plummeting stock and reported $53 million loss in the fourth quarter.” The arrogance of Kellogg Co. was astounding, with CEO John Bryant claiming that the company’s massive losses were just a “coincidence” and not due to the boycott.

 

In the three months following Kellogg’s war against Breitbart:

 

the company has faced allegations of racism toward factory workers and has been accused of allegedly profiting from the use of child labor. Its non-profit W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s ties to radical anti-American billionaire George Soros, hate group Black Lives Matter, and deceased Cuban dictator Fidel Castro have been exposed, and the Michigan-based company is set to shutter dozens of distributions centers and lay off more than 1,100 full-time employees.

 

Last August, Paypal decided that it, too, wanted to interfere with freedom of speech and thought. The company cancelled Jihad Watch’s account, but it was reinstated not long afterward after public outrage. Meanwhile, the Islamic State used PayPal to send money to jihadis inside the U.S., but that revelation wasn’t enough to stop Paypal from pontificating in its letter announcing its reinstatement of the Jihad Watch account:

 

PayPal’s Acceptable Use Policy in our User Agreement prohibits individuals and groups from using PayPal for activities that promote hate, violence, or racial intolerance.

 

This is a key statement, as Jihad Watch is not a hate site. It is a news aggregate and commentary site dedicated to exposing the broad range of human rights abuses committed in the name of Islam, and reports from a range of news sites are referenced. Take, for example, a few recent Jihad Watch headlines:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

These are but a mere few examples, but they go on and on. What normal citizen can point out the “hate” in exposing such news? Every single day, reports emerge from the four corners of the earth about human rights abuses committed in the name of Islam, Islamic supremacist incursions into once-peaceful countries, the slaughter and injury of innocent people committed in the name of Islam, and jihad attacks. If reporting and discussing these facts are an offense to Muslims and deemed to be “hateful” and “racist,” then we need to have serious open discussions about why and how this is so. But there is a strenuous effort to shut down all discussion of these matters.

 

Meanwhile, who remembers or cares about the victims? Jihad Watch, the Horowitz Center and others that are unashamed to stand for human rights and who are grateful to those who died in the cause of freedom. Fierce battles have been waged against fascism, and if history has taught us anything, we should know that fascist regimes endeavor to control the thoughts and words of their people, as does the Southern Poverty Law Center today. The SPLC has mutated into a hate group itself. In the words of its former spokesman Mark Potok, who spent 20 years as an SPLC senior fellow (according to LinkedIn):

 

Sometimes the press will describe us as monitoring hate groups, I want to say plainly that our aim in life is to destroy these groups, completely destroy them.

 

As reported by Breitbart:

 

The David Horowitz Freedom Center has had their donation processing system blocked by Visa and Mastercard allegedly following a campaign by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Visa has since contacted Breitbart News to deny involvement in the blacklisting of the Freedom Center.

 

It is by degrees that totalitarians manage to seize control. The establishment media becomes a mouthpieces of the people in power, and soon, the population becomes enslaved to their ideologies, as we see with Islamofascism. It is abusive, oppressive and aims to silence all dissent as it marches against the House of War in order to subvert it and bring it into the House of Islam. This 1,400-year-old doctrine has infiltrated the West in the private and public sectors, and the Muslim Brotherhood, in accordance with its memorandum, has managed to redefine “hate” to mean any criticism of Islam.

 

Now Horowitz and Spencer stand accused of “hate,” without any semblance of justice or due process. MasterCard and Visa have bowed to the totalitarian impulse, and in so doing have also indicted their customers. This will continue, if there is no resistance. Let’s hope that boycotts and class action suits will soon be in the offing, prompted by both consumers and the leaders of conservative organizations.

SPLC Hates Free Speech


The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) [See Also DTN] might as well be the chief propaganda machine for all things Leftist/Marxist in America. Not only does the SPLC target fringe groups (e.g. KKK, Neo-Nazis, Aryans, Christian Identity, etc.), but they seek to smear traditional Christian/American values organizations.

 

The SPLC has placed many good and non-violent organizations on a hate list being falsely accused of racism and bigotry while giving a pass to Leftist fringe groups. There was a time in America when freedom of speech was considered so basic that it was rarely talked about. Today “civil rights” organizations such as the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) are devoted to silencing the voices who insist on speaking their minds. The SPLC does not recognize honest differences of opinions, but instead, all who do not adhere to its leftist politics are called “racist-hater-bigot-Islamophobe”. That’s one word, mind you.

The SPLC has found fellow totalitarians in such groups as the Jewish Federation who have turned from tolerance of political differences to attempts to silence dissident voices to Islamic fundamentalists like the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Southern Poverty Law Center and the Apologists

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) came to my hometown at the invitation of the Jewish Federation. Now the SPLC is the supreme judge of social morality. The SPLC is the US hate monitor and is the basis for censorship by Twitter, Face Book, Google, and You Tube. I am a racist-hater-bigot- Islamophobe according to the SPLC because I talk about political Islam.

 

Part of the problem with the SPLC judgment or decree is that there is no due process or redress. There is no way to challenge them. Their purpose is to shame and drive their victims out of business.

 

The purpose of the SPLC is to censor all those who have different political ideas. They oppose free speech as hate speech. They reject fact based reasoning and critical thought. The Jewish Federation is a partner with these totalitarians. They are joined by the Christians who are apologists for Islam.

 

The SPLC, the Federation or the other apologists cannot stand a critical view of political Islam. Their only response is that critical thinkers are racist-hater-bigot Islamophobes. Knowledge is bigotry and denial is a virtue.

Social Media Exclusion of Conservative Thought

If you are a stalwart American Conservative you are fully aware the largest social media platforms have been operating a stealth war that favors Leftists (aka Liberal, Progressive but maybe better described as Moonbat, Snowflake, etc.). With this understanding of Social Media, I received an email from ACT for America notifying readers that PayPal is now not allowing donations via its online platform evidently citing the erroneous “hate-speech” label on lists from organizations such as the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). The SPLC is as close to a Leftist Communist organization as it can be without admitting so.

 

Left-Wing organizations such as the SPLC are heavily invested in fundamentally transforming American away from American-Christian values into a brainwashed society that believes and acts as the State would have society (i.e. YOU) believe.

 

I am pretty vocal as a mouthpiece to preserve the fundamental Rights that have inalienably been endowed by the Creator of all that exists and intended to be protected by the Founding Fathers’ founding documents that define citizens of the USA as Americans.

 

I am vocal but small potatoes as far as the Leftist multi-conglomerate Social Platforms are concerned. Take heed, once the Leftist controlled Social Media giants deceptively limit and remove the dissemination of Conservative thought, the small potato bloggers will soon follow. Start massively complaining to these giants, because advertisers are interested in targeting potential Conservative customers as much as Liberal customers. Barring that, pray some Conservative geeks develop a social platform that is competitive and simple to use as the geeks that lean Left.

 

Find ways to donate to Conservative organizations being stifled by Facebook, Google, Youtube, Twitter and PayPal. In the meantime, support the small potato Conservatives who would be the next target if not already so. On a personal level, I’ve been in Facebook jail thrice, Google+ jail once, I’ve had a couple Youtube videos removed with a warning about my channel’s existence, yet I have escaped Twitter and Paypal’s notice to date.

A new study from the Media Research Center says conservatives, and their ideas, right now are facing an existential threat from tech companies founded and run by liberals who have decided that only their voice should be heard on disputed issues.

 

“The conservative movement is facing a threat to its very existence – a new, insidious form of media censorship,” the MRC report, available starting Monday, said.

 

“Media bias has always been an enemy of the right. Liberal journalists relied on talking points and talking heads that agreed with for their stories. Conservatives were typically ignored or even targeted by old-school media monopolies but while conservatives were excluded, their organizations were still allowed to function and even flourish. The internet gave the right new tools to go around traditional media – websites, email, video and social media. Conservatives’ power online continued to grow as groups expanded their base of supporters and were even able to flourish online.

 

“Now, all of that is under threat,” the report states.

 

How?

 

It’s not complicated. If the liberals who run the big companies, like Facebook, Google, Youtube and Twitter, all suppress conservative speech, and the report concludes they are, no messages that contradict leftist propaganda will be heard.

 

“Like it or not, social media is the communication form of the future – not just in the U.S., but worldwide. Just Facebook and Twitter combined reach 1.8 billion people. More than two-thirds of all Americans (68 percent) use Facebook. YouTube is pushing out TV as the most popular place to watch video. Google is the No. 1 search engine in both the U.S. And the world,” the study finds.

 

And those organizations are not about transparency and fairness.

 

“War is being declared on the conservative movement in this space and conservatives are losing – badly. If the right is silenced, billions of people will be cut off from conservative ideas and conservative media.

 

“It’s the new battleground of media bias. But it’s worse. That bias is not a war of ideas. It’s a war against ideas. It’s a clear effort to censor the conservative worldview from the public conversation,” the study said.

 

Among the key findings in the study is that Twitter leads in censorship – and Project Veritas even caught staffers boasting on hidden camera they had been censoring conservatives through a technique known as shadow banning.

 

There, users think their content is being seen widely, while Twitter deliberately suppresses it.

 

On Facebook, its trending feed has been caught hiding conservative topics.

 

A 2016 Gizmodo story warned of the bias, with testimonies from former employees they’d been instructed to “hide conservative content.”

 

“On the other hand,” the study said. “the term ‘black lives matter’ had also been placed into the trending section even though it was not actually trending.”

 

Google’s search functions, the study said, simply help Democrats.

 

“Google and Youtube’s corporate chairman Eric Schmidt is known to have helped Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign,” the study said. “The company’s search engine had deployed a similar bias in favor of Democrats.”

 

And YouTube simply shuts down conservatives’ videos. That deprives them of monetization first, but also the publicity that successful videos generate.

 

“YouTube moderators must take their cues from the rest of Google – from shutting down entire conservative channels ‘by mistake’ to removing videos that promote right-wing political views. YouTube’s special creators for change section is devoted to people using their ‘voices for social change’ and even highlights the work of a 9/11 truther.”

 

Further, tech companies partner with leftists including the Southern Poverty Law Center, and more, to try to further their campaigns.

 

It cites the SPLC and the Anti-Defamation League.

 

“Both claim to combat ‘hate,’ but treat standard conservative beliefs in faith and family as examples of that hatred. George Soros-funded Propublica is using information from both radical leftist organizations to attack conservative groups such as Jihad Watch and ACT for America, bullying Paypal and other services to shut down their funding sources.”

 

Twitter’s “Trust and Safety Councli” [sic] has 12 liberals as members. Only one conservative.

 

And the “fact-checkers” that the companies, whose empire encompasses $3 trillion, use? All “anti-conservative,” the report says.

 

A strong commitment to transparency and fairness with a dedication to free speech likely is the only solution, the study notes.

 

The companies “must stop pretending” that disagreeing is the equivalent of “hate speech,” and the bias must be removed.

 

That means groups that routinely label core conservative values as “hate” need to be addressed.

 

“Tech companies can’t expect conservatives to trust a system that is so blatantly one-sided,” it said.

 

Included in the study was a quote from Niall Ferguson, Hoover Institute senior fellow: “Nothing has changed politics not only in the U.S., but worldwide more than the advent of companies like Facebook. Forty-five percent of Americans now get news from Facebook …. Mark Zuckerberg, who runs Facebook, has the power to tweak the algorithm that determines what gets into your news feed and my news feed. And that is an awesome power … because let’s face it Mark Zuckerberg’s politics are liberal politics. He has no desire to see 2016 happen again.”

 

The study, by Ashley Rae Goldenberg and Dan Gainor, documents, “The problem starts deep inside the liberal corporate cultures of the companies. Eric Schmidt recently stepped down as head of both Google and Youtube. While still in that role, he aided the Hillary Clinton campaign. … Zuckerberg has been a strong proponent of the Dream Act and LGBT issues.”

 

Then their employees reflect those biases.

 

Facebook workers donated 99 times more to Hillary Clinton than President Trump. For Google, it was 63 times.

 

A survey showed 89 percent of very conservative, 74 percent of conservative and 69 percent of libertarian workers are “hesitant of being themselves while at work for fear they might lose their jobs.”

 

Sen. Ted Cruz, the study notes, warned just weeks ago that if the companies are a neutral public forum, they cannot allow censorship. If they are not a neutral public forum, “the entire predicate for immunity under CDA (Community Decency A[c]t) is claiming to be a neutral public forum, so you can’t have it both ways.’

Time to Take the Grassroots Gloves Off


I am on the ACT for America email list. The list is fantastic for getting updates on how radical Islam is affecting America on a stealth level. As you know, belonging to any kind of list typically means you’ll get fund raising emails as well.

 

The ACT email I received on 12/7 is actually a fund-raising effort. HOWEVER, Brigitte Gabriel brilliantly lays out how radical Islamic organizations deceiving us about peaceful moderation, Leftists that support Islamic lie (she mentions the SPLC and George Soros), Deep State obstructionists supporting Crooked Hillary and trying a coup against President Trump, as well Deep State Communists like violent ANTIFA bullying Americans to discard Making America Great Again.

I don’t know if you have noticed the American Left has been trying to shut up Conservative and Counterjihad outlets by attack their pocketbooks based on the Marxist oriented SPLC hate list. The SPLC hate list places non-violent, Conservative/Biblically Christian values organizations as well as those that expose the violent nature inherent in Islamic revered writings on the same list as the violent KKK and the various Neo-Nazi organizations. Ironically the SPLC does not have violent ideologies like Antifa, Black Lives Matter, the New Black Panthers, Marxist-Racist Black Liberation Theology and the ilk on a Hate List.

 

If you are on the SPLC Hate List, financial organizations such as PayPal will terminate your account making it difficult to receive online donations from supporters of non-violent Patriot organizations, Christian Organizations, Counterjihadists, expose the Homosexual Agenda organizations and so on of non-violent charitable or non-profit organizations.

 

You could probably win a bet in saying the Leftist Mainstream Media (MSM) has not reported or extremely under-reported the Leftist attack on the financial situation of these organizations. This is the reason behind me wondering if you were aware of the financial attack.

 

Jihad Watch (Robert Spencer) and Pamela Geller were suspended. Then a few days later were reinstated (Jihad Watch & Geller) to PayPal. I suspect their following made such a big deal that PayPal felt compelled to reinstate them.

 

I use PayPal on my blogs. According to the SPLC I would be a propagator of hate because I would be categorized as a homophobe (Supportive Biblical Values), Pro-Life/anti-abortion thus categorized anti-women’s Rights, Islamophobic (Exposing violence in Islamic revered writings and correlating to today’s Muslim terrorism), Pro-Christian in government yet anti-government in Faith and probably lesser SPLC Marxist violations I can’t think of now at this moment.

 

If a Leftie complains to PayPal they would probably suspend my account. I don’t have a huge Spencer/Geller support base. I would be forced to look elsewhere for online support. Can any of you fellow small potatoes bloggers relate?

 

Bare Naked Islam (BNI) has a story on SPLC-hate related influence, listing other Leftist and Islamic-apologist websites creating their hate lists pushing financial institutions to dump ethical organizations that expose the Left and Pro-Islamist interests. For sure BNI does rub some folks the wrong way with their brusque literary style, but the info is valid.

 

I have found myself in Social Media jail with both Facebook and Google in the past. I always found the jail an interesting plight since I do not use profanity nor do I advocate any kind of violence especially murder, of those I highly disagree with. So, I was in Social Media jail for either being a Biblical Christian, the Leftist epithet of being a homophobe, the Islamic Apologist epithet of Islamophobe or whatever Conservative value upset a whiner who complained.

Google, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter are no longer “friendly” to our message. Political correctness reigns on our major social media platforms and is suppressing free speech across the right and left spectrum of religion and politics. The Islamo-Left is adhering to the Sharia.

There is a distinct possibility that eventually I will be totally censored from these major social media platforms. We need to prepare for that day. The only method of communication that is entirely safe is newsletters. The Hate Machine: How the Southern Poverty Law Center Is Cashing in by Bashing Christians

Once upon a time, the Southern Poverty Law Center served as a champion in the civil rights struggle. It’s said that the SPLC helped put the Ku Klux Klan out of business. Klan membership used to be in the millions. Today it’s only a few thousand.

 

But when you glance at the SPLC’s map of hate groups in America today, there are so many that one might think America is consumed with hate.

 

But is it?

 

Changing the Definition of ‘Hate’

 

When you’ve put the Klan out of business and won all your battles, but you’re not ready to close your doors, you’ve got to find new enemies to fight.

 

One of those new enemies is former Vanderbilt history professor Dr. Carol Swain. Swain grew up in the old South and fought poverty and racism to become a university professor. She’s an expert on white nationalism. But she has publicly attacked the SPLC, and Swain, a conservative Christian, found herself on the SPLC’s hate list as a supposed “apologist for white supremacists.”

 

Other SPLC targets have included Dr. Ben Carson – who was later removed from its hate list – female genital mutilation victim Hirsi Ali, and even small charities like the Ruth Institute, whose mission is to help families and children. The Ruth Institute said, “If this makes us a ‘hate group,’ so be it.”

 

The SPLC: A ‘Money-Making Machine’

 

Among the list of Christian groups on the SPLC’s Hate Map are many local churches. It’s usually because they oppose the gay agenda.

 

The list includes the Family Research Council. FRC Executive Vice President General Jerry Boykin doesn’t pull any punches, telling CBN News, “First of all, the SPLC, you have to understand, is probably one of the most evil groups in America. They’ve become a money-making machine and they’ve become an absolute Marxist, anarchist organization.”

 

Alliance Defending Freedom, a Christian legal group, is also on the list. Kerri Kupec, ADF legal counsel and communications director said, the Southern Poverty Law Center once did good work, “but the SPLC lost its way a long time ago.”

 

Nothing ‘Poor’ About the Southern Poverty Law Center

 

Kupec dismisses the SPLC as a “direct mail scam,” but marvels at the SPLC’s revenues, with assets listed at $315 million.

 

“I have never heard of a group with ‘poverty’ in its name that has so much money,” Kupec said.

 

Apple, JP Morgan, and actor George Clooney are just a few who have given millions to the SPLC; there’s so much money coming in that some of it is going into offshore investments, a red flag for some, but offshore investing among charities is not uncommon.

 

The Link to Violence

 

What is more disturbing is what the SPLC’s opponents call a link to deadly violence against Christians and conservatives.

 

On August 15, 2012, Floyd Lee Corkins stormed into the Family Research Council’s Washington offices intending to kill. He wounded the building manager before he was stopped. A bullet hole still remains in a console in the lobby.

 

After his arrest, Corkins told the FBI where he heard about the Family Research Council’s Washington offices. On FBI video of his interrogation, Corkins says, “Southern Poverty Law lists anti-gay groups. I found them online, did a little bit of research, went to the website, stuff like that.”

 

Boykin adds, “Our people know coming here, based on reality and based on what happened here, they’re taking a risk.”

 

James T Hodgkinson, who shot House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and injured several others at a congressional softball practice this year, had “liked” the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Facebook page.

 

The SPLC later admitted, “We’re aware that the SPLC was among hundreds of groups that the man identified as the shooter ‘liked’ on Facebook. I want to be as clear as I can possibly be: The SPLC condemns all forms of violence.”

 

Is the SPLC Spreading Hate?

 

But after these attacks, some are asking the obvious: Does the Southern Poverty Law Center spread hate?

 

The SPLC did not respond to our invitation to be a part of this story and refute the claims made against it, but publicly remains unapologetic. The SPLC has stated repeatedly that their listing of Christian groups who oppose the LGBT agenda “is completely unrelated to religion, Christianity or the Bible. These groups are listed because they repeatedly lie in an effort to defame LGBT people.”

 

In 2007 former SPLC spokeman Mark Potok told a conference in Michigan, “I want to say plainly that our aim in life is to destroy these groups, to completely destroy them.”

 

  1. James Kennedy Ministries, also on the hate list, is suing the SPLC, and the charitable arm of Amazon, AmazonSmile, for dropping the ministry from their lists of eligible religious charities.

 

The news media has begun using the SPLC’s hate map in stories about racism and bigotry, giving the map even more clout and credibility.

 

CNN published the list under the headline “Here Are All the Hate Groups Active in Your Area” before taking it down.

 

Forty-seven conservative groups and Sen. James Lankford have written the media demanding that it stop using the SPLC hate map as a source.

 

Boykin said, “The SPLC has no authority, except the authority they’ve given themselves, to build a hate map or to list people or organizations as haters.”

 

But there is no sign the Southern Poverty Law Center is changing course when the Left supports it so strongly, the news media relies it, and the donations keep rolling in.

Dear Reader:

As the Middle East Forum’s reach and influence expands, so too does the flurry of ad hominem, distorted, and plainly false attacks on the organization, mostly from Islamists and the far Left.

Institutions leading this assault include the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), J Street, Jewish Voices for Peace, and most recently the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. George Soros’ Open Society Foundations has a special place in our hearts for funding anti-MEF research.

Our opponents attack us for different reasons. Islamist activists loathe our national security views, advancement of women’s rights, and efforts to protect freedoms of moderate Muslim authors, activists, and publishers. Israel-haters oppose our efforts to puncture Palestinian illusions. Academics want to discredit our efforts to improve Middle East studies in North America. America-haters can pretty much take their pick of reasons.

Regardless of their motives, they all draw on the same tired canards that we so often refuted on an ad hoc basis. To save the curious some legwork, we are publishing a list of the top ten falsehoods, refuting them all at once, and maybe once and for all. Please take a look.

Falsehoods and Facts about the Middle East Forum: A Top Ten List

The Middle East Forum (MEF) is the object of repeated falsehoods. To clear the record, here follows the top ten and our corrections.

 

Falsehood 1: The Middle East Forum is anti-Muslim, or “Islamophobic.”

 

False Statements

 

Center for American Progress: “The Middle East Forum is at the center of the Islamophobia network.”

 

Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR): Daniel Pipes is “considered by many Muslims to be America’s leading Islamophobe.”

 

The Southern Poverty Law Center: Daniel Pipes is “at the center of what is a large and evolving network of Islam-bashing activists.”

 

Fact 1: Far from being biased against Muslims, MEF challenges a radical ideology responsible for unfathomable Muslim suffering, and one which most Muslims reject. Middle East Forum President Daniel Pipes has been emphasizing the distinction between Islamism and the Islamic religion – and between the “completely justified fear of Islamists and unjustified fear of all Muslims” – for decades.

 

The only people who maintain there is little or no distinction between detesting Islamism and detesting Muslims are Islamists themselves and fellow travelers of the sort quoted above. The “Islamophobia” accusations they level at MEF and others are designed to conflate Islamism and Islam, claiming an attack on one is an attack on the other.

 

This conflation also attempts to delegitimize non-Islamist Muslims working to free their faith from the grip of extremists, and it is no coincidence that Muslim reformers are often viciously attacked. The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a far-left organization known for its often inaccurate claims, lists Maajid Nawaz of the Quilliam Foundation alongside Mr. Pipes as an “anti-Muslim extremist.”

 

The SPLC has branded Muslim reformer Maajid Nawaz as an “anti-Muslim extremist.”

 

A lot of money finances these allegations. The Center for American Progress, for example, received a $200,000 grant from George Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF) to “research and track the activities” of the Middle East Forum and other NGOs working to combat the spread of radical Islam in America. The Brookings Institution’s recent focus on so-called “Islamophobia” in America likely has much to do with its decade-long partnership with Qatar, which provided it with a $14.8 million 4-year grant in 2013.

 

The latest organization to level the “Islamophobia” accusation at MEF is the Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF), which lashed out after we revealed publicly that it had provided $330,524 to two extremist organizations, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and Islamic Relief. It turns out SVCF is getting paid too. According to its 990 form, the extremist International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) provided SVCF with $500,000 in “program assistance” in 2015.

 

Falsehood 2: Daniel Pipes regards Muslim organizations as subversive.

 

False Statements

 

Jewish Voice for Peace: “Pipes views almost every possible Muslim activity as subversive and threatening.”

 

Center for American Progress: “The alarmist rhetoric of Daniel Pipes … brand[s] Muslims, Sharia, and even the instruction of Arabic as affronts to American freedom.

 

Fact 2: In keeping with Mr. Pipes’ oft-repeated belief that “radical Islam is the problem, moderate Islam is the solution,” MEF’s Islamist Watch project was established with a mission to “expose the Islamist organizations that currently dominate the debate, while identifying and promoting the work of moderate Muslims.”

 

MEF has a long history of supporting, employing, and collaborating with Muslims working to free their community and faith from the grip of Islamists.

Falsehood 3: Pipes supports interning Muslims, akin to the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II.

 

False Statements

 

Jewish Voice for Peace: “The Southern Poverty Law Center notes that ‘Pipes endorsed the internment of Muslims in America,’ referencing WWII Japanese American concentration camps as a model to be used against Muslims today.”

 

Silicon Valley Community Foundation: “Daniel Pipes, president of Middle East Forum, has written in support of the model of Japanese internment camps in relation to American Muslims.”

 

Fact 3: This canard is a paradigmatic example of how charges initially levelled by one radical organization metastasize through repetition by others. The SPLC report misquoted at right by Jewish Voice for Peace actually states, “In 2004, Pipes endorsed the internment of ethnic Japanese in American prison camps in World War II and held that up as a model for dealing with Muslims today.”

 

But even this isn’t true. In 2005 an Islamist organization in Canada had to apologize and make a charitable donation to the Middle East Forum for making this claim.

 

The original article did not argue for internment camps as a model (a follow-up explaining how CAIR and others distorted Pipes’ position can be read here), but rather concluded with support for author Michelle Malkin’s thesis about threat profiling: “She correctly concludes that, especially in time of war, governments should take into account nationality, ethnicity, and religious affiliation in their homeland security policies.”

 

Falsehood 4: MEF is wrong to label CAIR as “terrorism-linked.”

Fact 4: Here are many reasons why MEF can reasonably describe CAIR as “terrorism-linked.”

 

  • CAIR was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 2008 Holy Land Foundation terrorism financing trial.

 

  • During that trial, U.S. District Court Judge Jorge Solis concluded that, “The government has produced ample evidence to establish the associations of CAIR…with Hamas.”

 

  • In 2014, the United Arab Emirates, a Muslim ally of the United States, designated CAIR a terrorist organization.

 

 

  • CAIR itself implicitly acknowledged the truth when it settled a 2004 libel lawsuit against a group making this allegation called Anti-CAIR, with no apology, retraction, or removal of offending Internet materials.

 

Falsehood 5: CAIR, Islamic Relief, and other Muslim groups criticized by MEF are respectable civil rights organizations.

 

False Statements

 

Jewish Voice for Peace: “Contrary to the Middle East Forum’s smear campaign, CAIR is a nationally-recognized civil rights organization that has received praise from seventeen U.S. Senators and 85 U.S. Representatives from both sides of the political aisle.”

 

Fact 5: CAIR and Islamic Relief are focused on promoting social insularity and distrust of authorities among U.S. Muslims, not defending their civil rights. In fact, both groups frequently host and promote extremist speakers who advocate against civil rights as most Americans understand them.

 

Siraj Wahhaj, for example, preaches that homosexuality is a “disease” of society, that the punishment for adultery is death, and that Muslims shouldn’t have non-Muslim friends. Omar Suleiman has rationalized honor killings, telling women thinking of promiscuity that they could be killed by their fathers for “offending Allah.” Jamal Badawi has said that men have a right to beat their wives. Abdul Nasir Jangda has argued that they have the right to rape their wives.

 

Falsehood 6: CAIR and Islamic Relief have clean bills of health on links to terrorism from the federal government and from charity watchdogs.

 

False Statements

 

Silicon Valley Community Foundation: “The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and Islamic Relief … are nonprofit organizations in good standing with federal agencies, and do not appear on any U.S. government list as having been tied to terrorism.”

 

Silicon Valley Community Foundation: “GuideStar reports … whether a nonprofit organization is identified as a ‘Specially Designated National’ on the Office of Foreign Asset Control’s list. In simpler terms, this is the list of U.S. organizations designated as having links to terrorist organizations. Neither CAIR nor Islamic Relief is on this list.”

 

Fact 7: MEF is a research institution that promotes American interests. Islamist Watch presents factual research on the influence and activity of non-violent U.S.-based Islamist groups and their leaders. Some oppose Israel, to be sure, but most are more focused on targeting women, homosexuals, and others.

 

Campus Watch researches, analyzes, and critiques the academic study of the Middle East. It argues against “analytical failures, the mixing of politics with scholarship, intolerance of alternative views, apologetics, and the abuse of power over students,” but it accepts divergent perspectives. Campus Watch recently published a favorable review of a lecture at the City University of New York (CUNY) by Sari Nusseibeh, a former senior PLO representative under Yasser Arafat whose views hardly qualify as pro-Israeli. A cursory examination of the project’s research articles demonstrates that the characterization of Campus Watch as Israel-centered is false. As for the “dossiers,” CW took down those initial eight profiles 15 years ago in favor of an institution-focused survey method.

 

Falsehood 8: Daniel Pipes and the Middle East Forum have funded the political campaigns of Dutch right-wing leader Geert Wilders.

 

False Statements

 

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: “David Horowitz and Daniel Pipes are reported to have put some $150,000 of foundation money into his campaign.”

 

Fact 8: Not a penny from Daniel Pipes or the Middle East Forum has gone to Wilders personally, his political party, or his campaign.

 

MEF did provide a grant to pay legal bills in Mr. Wilders’ trial over his film on radical Islam.

 

As the New York Times notes: “the funds that were sent to Geert Wilders were to help him in his legal cases and were not political donations.”

 

Falsehood 9: Campus Watch seeks to stifle academic freedom.

 

False Statements

 

CAIR: Campus Watch [is] part of a larger anti-intellectual campaign aimed at regulating discourse on the Middle East.

 

Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed, The Nation: Campus Watch is “neo-McCarthyite” and part of the “New McCarthyism” that seeks to silence anyone with whom it disagrees.

 

Fact 9: Campus Watch critiques contemporary Middle East studies, which years ago jettisoned rigorous scholarship and teaching for politicized, biased, and inferior work. There is nothing wrong with scrutinizing and criticizing academic research.

 

No cliché is more hackneyed, no charge intellectually lazier than that CW engages in “McCarthyism” (see right). Unlike the late Sen. Joseph McCarthy, Campus Watch—a private organization—neither possesses nor seeks the ability to silence or persecute anyone.

 

Only in the fevered imaginations of some professors do rigorous critiques by outsiders equate with an anti-Communist witch-hunt.

 

Falsehood 10: Daniel Pipes has lost the support of his former academic colleagues

 

False Statements

 

Al Jazeera [interviewing a spokesman from the Center for American Progress]: Pipes has a “scholarly background, but … he has lost the support of many of the people he used to work with, and associate with, when he was a well-respected scholar.”

 

Fact 10: Mr. Pipes never stopped being a “well-respected scholar” When President George W. Bush nominated him to the board of directors of the U.S. Institute of Peace in 2003, 30 academics signed a letter in support of the appointment. For a more recent example, Professor Edward Alexander of the University of Washington lavished praise in 2016 on Pipes’ Nothing Abides.

 

That said, it is true that a radicalized academia condemns Pipes and the Forum for their mainstream outlook – and especially for their role in exposing the failure of Middle East studies.

Yesterday’s shooting by an SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center) supporting, Bernie Sanders devotee is the obvious and logical consequence of the left’s treasonous war on America. This is but another assassination attempt by a left-lauded Southern Poverty Law center supporter. SPLC, a vicious hate and smear machine, is  held up as some kind of authority by elite media and academic institutions. SPLC enthusiast Floyd Corkins  shot up the Family Research Council with the hope of killing as many employees as possible in August 2012. But this is just the tip of the iceberg.

For years, the left and its media lapdogs have created narratives out of whole cloth about the impending violence from the right. President Obama, inciter-in-chief, regularly used violent rhetoric to gin up the Democrats: “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.” He has supported the most violent, seditious movements of 21st-century America (Black Lives Matter, Occupy Wall Street, Muslim Brotherhood groups, etc.) while directing the Department of Homeland Security to track “right wing extremists” — in other words, Americans like you and me.

 

Here are some choice and sparsely reported quotes from Barack Obama:

 

“My administration is the only thing between you and the pitchforks.” Obama to CEOs.

“Get in Their Faces!” Obama to his doorknockers.

“I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!” Obama to ACORN crowd.

“Punch back twice as hard!” Obama to his Obomunists.

“We talk to these folks…so I know whose ass to kick.” Obama to the Left on the private sector.

“A Republican victory would mean hand to hand combat.” Obama to supporters.

“It’s time to Fight for it.” Obama in a speech to his supporters.

“Punish your enemies.” Obama to Latino supporters.

“I’m itching for a fight.” Obama to Democrats in a speech.

 

For years, the street thugs have been agitating, and for years the elites in the Democrat Party have egged them on, giving the violence their imprimatur, legitimacy and sanction. All the while, they blamed the right for unrelated violence. While there was no connection between what a Norway mass-murdering madman did and we what said, what we recommended for countering jihad terrorism and the brutal sharia, the left blew up and blood-libeled us almost to the point of extinction. When it came out in court that this Norwegian madman was inspired to violence by al Qaeda and Hamas, that was never widely reported. The left always blames us for violence, no matter how non-existent the ties. Even when I was the target of an assassination plot in Garland, Texas, for example, the left blamed me because I would not adhere to the blasphemy laws under the sharia.

 

Bernie Sanders fundraised by blaming Sarah Palin and conservatives in general for the 2011 shooting of Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-AZ). The Daily Caller reported that “there was never any actual evidence presented that Jared Loughner, a diagnosed schizophrenic who pleaded guilty to the shooting, was a Palin fan, a Tea Party supporter, or that he had ever seen Palin’s ‘crosshairs’ map” that was widely blamed for the shooting. In fact, according to the Caller, “one friend tweeted that ‘he was left wing, quite liberal.’”

 

Last week’s shooter in Portland was also a Bernie supporter; he ranted against Christians, Jews and Muslims, but the enemedia reported his shooting of two people as an “Islamophobic” “hate crime.”

 

I have been covering leftist and Islamic protests for years, and they are rife with hate and violence that never get reported in the mainstream media. My colleague, Pamela Hall, has been indefatigable in covering the rise of the left-wing totalitarians. Followers of my website, the Geller Report, know her work and what it proves: a systematic, organized movement to overthrow American freedoms and install an enemy regime.

 

At every pro-America, pro-Trump, anti-sharia, counter terrorism protest, leftists show up full of bloodlust and primed for battle. These primitives agitate, incite and attack our people whenever we peacefully assemble. And their stooges in the media, like clockwork, then report what happened as follows: “Violence breaks out at far-right rally…” “Far-right” the media’s term for anyone who doesn’t submit to these goose-stepping, jackbooted thugs. At my rally against CUNY’s invitation to terror-inciter Linda Sarsour to give its commencement address, New York City Mayor “Red Bill” de Blasio directed the NYPD to put the violent leftists not three feet from our people. It was not pretty.

 

Conservative and pro-Israel speakers are attacked and silenced on the rare occasions they are even invited to speak. Trump supporters have been beaten at rallies and demos in support of the President. From Berkeley to Brooklyn, college campuses have become nothing short of war zones.

 

As the Daily Wire noted: “In recent years, under the tender tutelage of the Obama Department of Justice, mass violent action by leftists has become commonplace across the country, from the Occupy Wall Street movement to Black Lives Matter-inspired mob violence in Ferguson and Baltimore, from campus chaos at California State University of Los Angeles to this sort of violence at Trump rallies.”

 

This is not static. This situation on the ground is fluid.  Do the leftists think freedom-lovers will continue to stand down? Does the left want war? They are going to get it. Because we know where this road leads. We saw this same kind of violent thuggery in the 1930s in Germany. And we have seen what happens when good people do nothing.

 

As for the “good people” in the Democrat Party, where are they? Where are the mass protests where Democrats proclaim, “Not My Party!” Why aren’t we seeing that the way we are seeing “Not My President!”

 

If you are a Democrat Party member, you are part of the problem.

Lesbian Rights or Christian Rights

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC – SEE ALSO HERE) is taking the lead in the legal defense of the lesbian Janet Jenkins against former lesbian turned Christian Lisa Miller. Jenkins and Miller were once lesbian lovers that had united in a civil union in the State of Vermont where same-sex Marriage is recognized.

 

During the civil union Lisa Miller had a child that has no biological connection to Janet Jenkins. Sometime after the birth of Miller’s child, she became a Christian redeemed by the Blood of Jesus from past sins, which included homosexuality:

 

God’s Wrath on Unrighteousness

 

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

After becoming a Christian Lisa Miller no longer desired to live in sin with Janet Jenkins in a lesbian relationship. Even though Jenkins had no biological connection to Miller’s child Jenkins demanded visitation rights. In the mean time Lisa Miller moved to the State of Virginia which thankfully still does not recognize same-sex marriages.

 

Jenkins used the vile favoritism of Vermont law on civil unions filing for and winning visitation rights to Lisa Miller’s child. In the course of this Janet Jenkins decided to bath nude with Miller’s female daughter brainwashing the child about the so-called validity of having two mommies.

 

The brainwashing incident correctly horrified Lisa Miller. Due to the law giving more credence to the rights of godless lesbians over the rights of Christians, Lisa Miller fled the USA with her child.

 

AND this is where the Liberty Counsel and Mat Staver enter the picture. Janet Jenkins has named the Liberty Counsel and Staver in the aiding and abetting of Lisa Miller fleeing the Country to escaping lesbian-favoring laws.

 

Jenkins has acquired the legal resources of the SPLC to sue the Liberty Counsel and Mat Staver out of existence as defenders of the faith of Christian in the United States of America.

 

Below is an email from Mat Staver appealing for legal funds to combat the SPLC objective. Following the email, I am cross posting a 6/6/17 (also dated as 6/5) article explaining some of the details I have just gone over.

 

But before the cross posts. I want to point out an acronym used in those posts. That acronym is LGBTQ. If you are a Christian you are fully aware the acronym references the homosexual lifestyle. Yesterday, we filed our 116-page “Memorandum Of Law” and other legal documents countering the outrageous lawsuit against both Liberty Counsel and me personally which has been joined by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

This is one of the most important filings our team has made because of what is at stake and the vile nature of our adversaries’ accusations.

+ + Proof the SPLC wants to destroy us…

The SPLC is a dangerous, multi-hundred million dollar organization that specifically lists Liberty Counsel as a “hate group” on its website. And the SPLC is serving as Lead Counsel in this outrageous case.

Clearly, the SPLC has specifically targeted Liberty Counsel. They want to use this case to publicize their dangerous agenda. Ultimately, they want to destroy us – both Liberty Counsel and me personally. This isn’t my opinion. These are the words of the SPLC’s Mark Potok:

 

“Sometimes the press will describe us as monitoring hate crimes and so on. I want to say plainly that our aim in life is to destroy these groups, to completely destroy them…”

Liberty Counsel Responds to SPLC Lawsuit

BURLINGTON, VT — Today, Liberty Counsel filed a comprehensive response in federal court to the lawsuit backed by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) in the case of Jenkins v. Miller, et al. The legal Memorandum of Law is 116 pages, not counting affidavits. Liberty Counsel also filed a second Motion and Memorandum of Law raising Vermont’s anti-SLAPP, which prevents suits designed to restrict free speech.

 

While living in Virginia, Lisa Miller and Janet Jenkins entered into a Vermont same-sex civil union.  Lisa gave birth to her biological child, Isabella. For a brief period, they moved to Vermont. There Lisa became a Christian and left the lesbian relationship. Lisa moved back to Virginia and a visitation battle ensued between the laws of Vermont (which recognized the civil union) and Virginia (which did not). Liberty Counsel represented Lisa from late 2004 until she disappeared in September 2009.

 

A Vermont state court judge granted Janet visitation of Lisa’s biological child, even though she was not the biological or adoptive parent and Vermont precedent did not recognize such parental rights. Isabella knew very little about Janet as she was a baby at the time of the split. Lisa complied with the visitation orders, but she raised concerns to the Vermont judge which he never addressed. Lisa presented evidence that Janet read Heather Has Two Mommies to Isabella and told her she was her mommy. Janet bathed naked with her, which greatly upset young Isabella. Lisa advised the court that Isabella was having emotional problems over the visitation. She began wetting her bed, clinging to Lisa, and even tried to harm herself. The case became a nationally watched legal battle because it was the first case in the country pitting the opposing laws on same-sex civil unions of two different states.

 

While the litigation and appeals were still proceeding in September 2009, Lisa stopped communicating. She did not respond to emails and her voicemail filled up. The last communication from Lisa was about a week prior to her disappearance in which she stated she was interviewing for a job in Virginia. Without any warning or hint of her plan to disappear, Lisa ceased all communication. We advised the Vermont court we had lost contact with Lisa and requested to withdraw, but the Vermont court denied the request. The withdrawal was later effectuated in 2010.

 

During the Obama administration, a federal prosecutor filed criminal charges against two Mennonite ministers associated with a Mennonite community in Nicaragua, both of them with the last name of Miller (Ken and Timothy), but with no relationship to Lisa. A third person in Northern Virginia was also charged. All three have been convicted of helping Lisa flee the country. The criminal investigation is complete and at least one of the criminal defendants is on appeal. Lisa had no prior association with the Mennonites.

 

Janet Jenkins, the former lesbian partner of Lisa, filed a civil complaint in a Vermont federal court in 2012, claiming the alleged defendants participated in helping Lisa flee. The 2012 lawsuit did not name Liberty Counsel, Rena Lindevaldsen or Mat Staver. Lindevaldsen worked on the Lisa Miller case with Liberty Counsel.

 

In late 2016, Jenkins moved to amend her lawsuit to include Liberty Counsel, Lindevaldsen and Staver. The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) then joined the suit as the lead counsel for Jenkins.

 

The SPLC is a dangerous group because it creates a “Hate Map” listing “hate groups.” Mark Potock, with the SPLC, in an interview admitted: “Our criteria for a ‘hate group,’ first of all, have nothing to do with criminality, or violence, or any kind of guess we’re making about ‘this group could be dangerous.’ It’s strictly ideological.”

 

This false labeling has serious consequences. After the founder of Chick-fil-A said he believed marriage is between a man and a woman, Floyd Corkins went online to the SPLC Hate Map, entered the Family Research Council’s (FRC) office in Washington, D.C. fully-armed and carrying Chick-fil-A sandwiches. He intended to commit mass murder and rub the sandwiches in the faces of the dead bodies. Fortunately, the security guard wrestled Corkins to the ground. However, he was shot in the process. Corkins later confessed to the FBI that he sought to kill as many people at FRC after reading about the group on the SPLC Hate Map. Corkins is now in prison, but the SPLC refuses to take down its false and dangerous statements.

 

Mark Potok is on video in a public meeting stating: “Sometimes the press will describe us as monitoring hate crimes and so on. I want to say plainly that our aim in life is to destroy these groups, to completely destroy them…”

 

During the Obama administration, the SPLC frequently visited the White House. The SPLC even peddled its false ideological propaganda for some in the military until their extremism and false reporting got the group removed.

 

The Philanthropy Roundtable recently published an article about the SPLC pointing out the false labeling. The SPLC even labeled famed surgeon Dr. Ben Carson as a “hater.” The SPLC rakes in millions of dollars each year and has huge financial reserves, causing some to wonder what nonprofit work the SPLC does.

 

The Motions and Memoranda of Law to Dismiss the suit against Liberty Counsel, Staver and Lindevaldsen dismantle the Jenkin’s lawsuit, which has the sole purpose of harassing and “destroying” Liberty Counsel, Staver and Lindevaldsen. First, Jenkin’s complaint admits that Liberty Counsel, Staver and Lindevaldsen have always maintained they had no knowledge of Lisa’s plan to flee and had no part in her disappearance. Indeed, Lisa was always counseled to obey the court orders. The litigation was still in progress. Without any hint of her plan, Lisa disappeared with Isabella. Second, there are too many legal arguments to list here, but the Memoranda of Law demolishes the baseless complaint.

 

“The lawsuit by Janet Jenkins, with the backing of the Southern Poverty Law Center, is designed solely to harass and destroy,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. “In the nearly eight years since Lisa Miller disappeared, and with the intense investigation conducted on this case by the federal government and Janet Jenkins, there is not one shred of evidence that points to Liberty Counsel, Rena Lindevaldsen or me. But the facts and the law are irrelevant to Janet Jenkins and the SPLC. The SPLC’s motivation for joining this suit is to publicize their dangerous agenda. Ultimately, they want to destroy us. But that will not happen. The truth, a word the SPLC does not like, shall prevail,” said Staver.

 

Jenkins and the SPLC will have to respond to the legal arguments, and at some point, the federal court will make its ruling.

Former Attorney General Edwin Meese says it is “despicable” for the Southern Poverty Law Center to classify the Family Research Council and a dozen other top conservative organizations as “hate groups” similar to the Ku Klux Klan.

The SPLC has a history of targeting conservatives and conservative groups as racist, homophobic, or extremist if they disagree with the radical left positions of the SPLC on any number of issues. An article at Discover the Networks.org says “What makes the Southern Poverty Law Center particularly odious is its habit of taking legitimate conservatives and jumbling them with genuine hate groups (the Klan, Aryan Nation, skinheads, etc.), to make it appear that there’s a logical relationship between say opposing affirmative action and lynching, or demands for an end to government services for illegal aliens and attacks on dark-skinned immigrants. The SPLC has joined the Department of Homeland Security in a ‘Working Group’ called Countering violent Extremism. John Cohen, President and CEO of SPLC is listed as a member and Laurie Wood, Analyst, Southern Poverty Law Center/Instructor, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center is listed as an ‘expert in subject matter’. The members of the group also include three from Muslim organizations but we don’t see any conservatives. (see the list at the end of the report)

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) which has been determined by the courts to be a terrorist support group proudly points out on their Facebook page that its Michigan members ‘participated a Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Working Group meeting with law enforcement officials and community advocates in Dearborn, Mich.'[ibid].

So we have the Southern Poverty Law Center, also known as The Church of Morris Dees, which calls groups and individuals like the Family Research Council, Eagle Forum, the Heritage Foundation, Rush Limbaugh, Lou Dobbs, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Rep. Steve King (R-IA), and Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) ‘right wing extremists’ and the Council on American-Islamic Relations which the FBI has proven to be linked to a terrorist organization teaming up with the US Department of Homeland Security to determine what groups in America should be categorized as ‘extremist’ and potentially violent.

Now you can see why the DHS came out with its Rightwing Extremism report in April of 2009 that warned of potential violence by people against illegal immigration and gun control, and returning military veterans. Now that’s change.

So, why the heck am I rehashing Obama’s treacherous history after a majority of States elected Trump over Crooked Hillary? Please recall from above, that the Obama Administration lumped Conservatives, Christian Values and Counterjihadists with right wing extremists.

Trump Seeks to End Obama’s ‘Countering Violent Extremism’ Scam

Among the litany of Obama administration disasters, the rapid collapse of his “Countering Violent Extremism” (CVE) agenda is among the most consequential.

 

But groups in line to receive federal CVE grants announced just days before the end of the Obama era are now whining as the Trump administration seeks to put an end to the CVE scam.

 

Driven directly from the White House, the Obama administration’s CVE agenda was a replacement following a purge of counter-terrorism training across the federal government during 2011-2012 in response to a targeted series of reports by far-Left bloggers and reporters claiming widespread bias and “Islamophobia.”

 

Many of those claims were later debunked, but with the damage done the administration’s purge pressed ahead as it implemented CVE at the demand of Islamic groups, some of whom were directly involved in the formation of the administration’s CVE policies.

 

But as it became apparent that terror recruitment was escalating rapidly at nearly the same time that CVE was being imposed on agencies and departments across the board, the inability of CVE to actually countering any “extremists” was exposed. The same Islamic groups that urged the imposition of CVE then turned against the efforts when they realized that CVE was still primarily directed at the growing threat of Islamic recruitment, and not towards stigmatizing the administration’s perceived domestic political enemies.

 

By January 2015, Politico was already declaring that CVE was a complete flop:

Ka Joog has been one of the premier programs that CVE defenders have pointed to in calling for additional funding for the CVE program.

 

And yet in one of the group’s most visible failures, the nephew of the organization’s executive director was recruited by the Islamic State and eventually tried and convicted in federal court.

 

Another Twin Cities groups, Heartland Democracy, was scheduled to receive $165,000.

 

That group had been among the first to participate in a pet “deradicalization” project by the chief federal judge in Minnesota who tried many of the Islamic State recruiting cases.

 

But court documents exposed that Heartland Democracy had no experience in “jihadi rehab,” and its curriculum was described as “more high school civics course than religious deprogramming.”

The Daily Beast reported on the regimen established for their first “deradicalization” client:

 

He and a Somali-American mentor began to work through an extensive reading list, which included Richard Wright’s Native Son, a novel about growing up poor and black in the 1930s, and an article by Native American author Sherman Alexie about how poetry freed him from the “reservation” of his mind.

 

McKinley would not say how often Yusuf met his mentor.

 

“We met with him regularly, I don’t know the number of times a week,” she said. When pressed on whether they met weekly, biweekly, or at a different pace, McKinley would not clarify. “We met with him regularly.”

 

Court documents also reference Yusuf meeting with religious leaders, but McKinley wasn’t sure about that.

 

“I don’t know if he’s met with any religious leaders,” she said in response to a question about meeting with imams. “I mean, he’s an adult, he can get any visitor he wants.”

 

That first client was sent back to jail after a search of his room at a halfway house found a box cutter.

 

The Obama administration’s CVE programs have a lengthy history of failure:

 

  • As I reported here at PJ Media just a few days ago, an Associated Press investigation into the Pentagon’s $500 million WebOps program to counter Islamic State propaganda found widespread incompetence and corruption. According to whistleblowers, civilian Arabic specialists with no understanding of Islam tried to defeat complex religious justifications for terrorism, resulting in the program becoming a laughingstock in jihadist circles.

 

  • In December 2014, the New York Times reported that the then-head of Special Operations Command, Major Gen. Michael Nagata, convened a series of conference calls with outside experts attempting to understand why the message of the Islamic State had grown so dangerous. But after the Obama administration’s counter-terror training purge, Gen. Nagata was forced to admit that “we do not understand the movement, and until we do, we are not going to defeat it….We have not defeated the idea. We do not even understand the idea.”

 

  • In September 2011, Obama signed an executive order creating the State Department’s Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications (CSCC).One of their early failures was a graphic video produced called “Welcome to ISIS Land,” targeting would-be Islamic State recruits. The center’s director was quickly replaced. Then a Twitter campaign, “Think Again Turn Away,” was largely panned by terror experts who claimed the effort was largely ineffective and was actually legitimizing the terrorist narrative. A panel of outside experts convened by the State Department agreed, finding that the CSCC was so counterproductive to its mission that they questioned whether the U.S. government should be involved in counter-propaganda at all. The center was promptly closed.

 

  • One of the first CVE guidelines produced by the Department of Homeland Security in 2011 was to instruct federal agencies to avoid using “trainers who are self-professed ‘Muslim Reformers,'” and yet documents uncovered regarding meetings with DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano show the agency soliciting advice from known extremist groups and controversial Islamic leaders. Some of these extremist leaders even held official positions advising DHS. Last June, when the DHS Countering Violent Extremism Subcommittee released its recommendations urging $100 million in new CVE funding, it urged banning the use of “jihad” or “sharia” in training — two very common terms used by terrorist recruiters. One of the subcommittee members, a Syrian immigrant, had previously said that the 9/11 terror attacks had “changed the world for good.” And in December, DHS teamed up with the State Department to bring in the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), an organization that the Justice Department had argued in federal court had supported terrorism, to teach a CVE course for French officials. Even though the State Department programs have been universally panned, it was reported last August that they had tripled the budget.

 

  • In implementing the Obama administration’s CVE agenda, the FBI had conducted a wide-scale purge of its terrorism training curriculum at the request of Islamic groups claiming it was biased. In a move questioned by members of Congress, the FBI classified the identities of the outside experts brought in to censor the material. A subsequent review of the censored terror-training material discovered suspect and inconsistent standards in purging the curriculum. More recently, a FBI website and video game (“Don’t Be a Puppet”) intended to target youth vulnerable to terrorist recruitment was launched, and then suspended after just a day in response to complaints of Islamic groups, terror experts, and even teachers unions that the effort was biased, ineffective, and encouraged students to inform on each other. Some of the criticism came from the FBI’s own Muslim outreach partners that were brought in to advise the bureau on its CVE policies.

 

So it’s no great mystery why the incoming Trump administration began discussions about scaling back and ending Obama’s CVE program.

 

Others contend that the CVE grants were political payoffs to groups to enlist their aid in scuttling counter-terror programs and to silence any possible criticism of the Obama national security and foreign policy agenda.

 

The chairman of one group that was scheduled to receive a $400,000 CVE grant, Life After Hate, has publicly launched attacks on the incoming Trump administration and even called for the violent removal of President Trump one day after his inauguration.

 

Meanwhile in Minneapolis, as Ka Joog declines the $500,000 in announced DHS CVE grants the group has quickly transitioned from attempting to deradicalizing area Somali youth to publicly declaring that President Trump is engaged in “an official war against Islam” — parroting a standard terrorist narrative.

 

But as mentioned previously, the nephew of the executive director who had participated in Ka Joog programs was still recruited to join the Islamic State.

 

In another instance, an Islamic State recruit from Alexandria, Virginia, later captured by Kurdish troops and currently facing federal charges, lived less than 50 yards from one of the Obama administration’s top go-to CVE experts.

 

If these so-called CVE “experts” can’t prevent their closest relatives or neighbors from joining terrorist groups, why should the Trump administration continue to entrust them with our national security?

 

Despite all the media hand-wringing, it seems that questioning the effectiveness of Obama’s CVE program is entirely in order given its constant track record of failure.

 

Yet in light of the current media climate, the new administration should expect that it will come under fire for whatever they eventually replace the failed CVE agenda with. And the Islamic State and other terrorist groups continue to recruit and encourage supporters to conduct attacks inside the homeland.

 

Ending the CVE scam would be a good first step in reversing the corrosive policies established by the Obama administration that have hampered and sometimes punished our law enforcement and national security professionals for doing their job.
