Intro to ‘Canary Mission’

Ari Bussel sent a bit of an editorial nearly a week ago. I just caught up the Bussel piece and offer my apologies for not catching it earlier. I am unsure if my primary email service is actively restricting some emails (which is possible) or if some emails go to spam and get deleted without notice. I found Ari’s article on my secondary email which I do not check as often.

I say all this because the article is awesome and informative for those of us residing in the USA.

In the article you will discover info on a Pro-Israel website – Canary Mission – which purposes to expose anti-Israel perpetrators maligning the Land of the Jews with hate-propaganda.

You will find info on what Ari will only reference as “The entity” which is working as a private organization in close relationship with an Israeli government agency called Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs. The Strategic Affairs’ purpose is to fight Boycott, Divest, Sanctions (BDS) hate movements attacking Israel.

Apparently, the Ministry of Strategic Affairs is contracting with private entities in its anti-BDS efforts to avoid revealing tactics and actions which Israel law holds that government operations be revealed. This is rubbing Israel’s Leftists and pro-Palestinian folks crazy.

After doing a little digging I think Ari’s “The entity” is Kela Shlomo which is translated to us American English speakers as Solomon’s Sling. If my guess is correct, the Times of Israel has some relevant info on the organization.

I am not quite sure where Ari Bussel stands on all these semi-secretive operations. I get the sense Ari admires the work of the Canary Mission but is a bit suspicious of Israel government funding going to private organizations as Kela Shlomo. There is always the chance of the abuse of power where transparency is lacking. But when an existential situation is present, perhaps a little secrecy is a good thing.

Canary Mission

The Times of Israel last month published an article by JTA titled “Pro-Israel donor Adam Milstein denies report that he funds Canary Mission.”

The subtitle to the article reads “Previously un-aired Al Jazeera report names the donor as being behind anonymous site that aims to name and shame anti-Israel activists.”

Philanthropist Adam Milstein clearly has his reasons for wanting to distance himself from Canary Mission. What was the reason that the article appeared, I do not know, but it does not serve our collective interests.

For some reason, the article singles out Milstein of all the local philanthropists and Canary Mission from all other pro-Israel organizations, many of which philanthropist Milstein supports and is proud about doing so.

As one example, Scholars for Peace in the Middle East touts “the work of our friends at the Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation who work on strengthening US-Israel ties” as a resource and offers its readers and supporters “to sign up for their mailers and updates.”

One would expect any leading figure in the pro-Israel camp to be aware of Canary Mission work and to applaud it.

Canary Mission

A close friend of mine was a financial supporter of and very involved with Canary Mission from its very founding. Canary Mission is not a clandestine operation of Israel’s intelligence services. Rather, it compiles and presents readily available information about Israel’s detractors.

The reporting of Canary Mission from open sources is accurate, verifiable and to the point. The truth, presented in a concentrated manner, is most potent. And thus, this disturbs greatly those who like to act in the shadows and conduct their evil, intimidation and terror without any oversight or recourse.

In some ways, two other Jerusalem-based organizations, MEMRI and PMW act similarly, providing a compilation of open-source information to the public at large (the former translating it from Arabic and Farsi, the latter focused on Palestinian media and society). In all three cases, the reflection in the mirror of those being reported is not much to their liking. The translation of what they say and the ease of getting to the information stands contrary to the misleading public image they try to maintain in the West.

Israel’s detractors are neither ashamed nor hide what they do. Quite on the contrary, they are very active and most visible in their fight to damage, vilify and try to eliminate the Jewish state. They demand the right to spew their hatred while preventing anyone else from the right to express his or her opinion or to safely listen to others expressing their opinions. They also use our own Western system and institutions to silence and intimidate anyone who does not think their way.

Canary Mission’s website states that it “documents individuals and organizations that promote hatred of the USA, Israel and Jews on North American college campuses. Canary Mission investigates hatred across the entire political spectrum, including the far right, far left and anti-Israel activists.”

The Simon Wiesenthal Center, the Southern Poverty Law Center [Blog Editor: I have to disagree with Ari on the SPLC. The SPLC groups Christian Biblically moral institutions, Counterjihadists & Pro-Israel organizations (and individuals) that are Conservative in the same categories as Neo-Nazi & White Supremacists. NOT GOOD.] and the Anti-Defamation League – the three oldest, most established and most respected civil-rights organizations in the USA — do the very same via their individual “fact-finding” departments.

Unlike these leading organizations, Canary Mission who uses a dot org suffix is not clear at all about what it is (apparently it is not a 510(c)(3) organization that provides a tax-write-off for its donors and in return has to have its books fully open to the public). However, not giving tax-exempt status does not necessarily reduce or damage its credibility, and those who want to support it financially do so with after-tax money.

Canary Mission address, according to a Google search, is Parcels Plus, shipping and mailing service in Florida. This is not surprising, given the nature of the individuals and entities being “exposed.” The operators of Canary Mission may feel (and rightly so) threatened for their property, wellbeing, personal safety and lives, and the danger is translated into just caution.

Fighting Canary Mission

Canary Mission is a necessary outfit, crucial at this time and provides added value in the service of Israel.

The article appearing at The Times of Israel may provide a clue as to the success of Canary Mission.

“According to the Forward, Israeli border control officers have used information from the site to bar activists from entering the country. The site does not reveal who funds it or manages its activity.”

So this is what bothers Israel’s enemies. They are being highlighted in a website, put in one place for the world to see and know. In some circles that process is called “shaming,” although for Israel’s detractors it is a badge of honor. Likely they would like nothing more than to take this site down and hurt anyone associated with it. But they cannot do it easily, since our own system cannot be used against it. Canary Mission is apparently not subject to rules and regulations of the Internal Revenue Service since it does not claim a non-profit status. It can, however, be subject to a lawsuit, and these likely will start arriving.

Half a year ago, an outfit calling itself “Palestine Legal” reported that Canary Mission Twitter account was suspended (for two days) and called its supporters and “victims of Canary Mission’s harassment to contact Palestine Legal and report any further violations of Twitter’s conduct rules directly to Twitter.”

Palestine Legal helps us understand why Canary Mission poses a threat. Its content? No. Its existence – very much so: the very audacity of Jews and Israelis not to be led to the slaughter like obedient sheep, the utter refusal to go to the ovens, amazing!

Palestine Legal is using Canary Mission as another tool in fighting Israel. Let us read the way it describes/defines Canary Mission: “Defamatory website that blacklists and harasses activists who support Palestinian rights.”

Palestine Legal continues to advise that “the website … now profiles over 1870 students, professors and community activists. Canary Mission frequently harasses these individuals on Twitter with abusive and hateful messages …. Blacklisted individuals have reported being questioned by current and prospective employers and schools about their support for Palestinian rights … they have been put on leave, denied bank accounts, received death threats, and been denied entry and Israeli-controlled entry points into Israel/Palestine.”

Palestine Legal is creating a full transposition: Those who call to boycott, divest and sanction Israel claim to be “blacklisted” and “harassed.” Those who advocate use of “any means” to bring about Israel’s demise are suddenly blaming the victims for issuing “death threats,” a preferred method by them. And the constant accusation of “being denied entry into Israel” surfaces verbatim.

Fighting Back

Allow me, detractors of Israel and her devout enemies, to clarify and emphasize: First, Israel has every right (and fiduciary responsibility) to prevent those who seek her destruction from coming in. You may not like it, as you got used to free and complete access. No more. Israel has awoken, understanding such irresponsible behavior is hurting her.

Second, Israel does not need to rely on foreign or open sources for taking protective and corrective action. Israel, a sovereign country with one of the best intelligence services and armed forces in the world definitely should not want to rely on a “shadowy-at-best source” unless it checked and verified and cross-checked and re-verified its contents.

Israel’s enemies are hurt and upset that they cannot do exactly as they please, that Israel has woken up and decided to start acting rationally. And Canary Mission is becoming a visible obstacle.

Allow me to further assure you, Israel’s enemies and detractors: Even without the existence or presence of Canary Mission, Israel will not revert to its old self of allowing you a free reign of terror. You will still be questioned and you will still be denied entrance. These are not unalienable human rights to which you are entitled. There is an Israel; and she will do what is necessary to defend herself and ensure her continued existence.

Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs

An article that appeared earlier this year in The Forward and later was expanded upon in an Israeli investigative site The Seventh Eye provides the context which will yield a greater understanding.

Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs has created a full entity, like a military division, tasked with fighting BDS. The entity [Blog Editor: I am guessing “The entity” is referencing Kela Shlomo (which in English translates as Solomon’s Sling)] is headed by a Brigadier General (res.), and it has tried to exclude its sizeable budgets from the Israeli laws of transparency claiming national security.

It is this attempt that has attracted much attention to it (much like Milstein’s denial of having anything to do with Canary Mission, adding to the frustration of the enemies and to the aura of success and effectiveness of Canary Mission). Also, the tens of millions of NIS earmarked to be spent fighting BDS have attracted the very keen interest of the very same organizations that failed to stop BDS as it grew and expanded and anyone else who sees a pot of gold and requires/demands access to enjoy the spoils.

It is this Ministry new division that has approached various non-profits in the USA and offered them funding. Most refused – as it is not allowed under US law. Most, but not all.

Alas, there are laws in the USA prohibiting exactly such activities.

Are all means sanctified by the objective? Not in Israel, and definitely not in the IDF, that sacrifices its own soldiers for protecting its ethics code and the sanctity of life.

Israel, the past has taught us, is being held to a much different moral standard than any other nation and people in the world.

Fighting Honorably

The lesson here is likely very simple. When fighting dirty, do not be surprised if the other side will use some of the same tactics and will follow a page from your own book. Expect to be exposed; and expect the other side to fight back.

And Israel’s enemies do not like it.

Maybe they should take a lesson from the many pages practiced by the IDF – act honorably, above reproach. Hide nothing. Recognize that transparency and truth are amazing remedies. Fight with conviction and with determination. Help protect life, liberty and justice; help build and create.

Where I Stand & Social Media

Have you ever been around people who you know you agree with much of what they believe? AND THEN you discover there are one or more issues you disagree with those same people. Indeed, there might be one thing you have an extreme disagreement with.

Disagreement is something I have learned to live with in various Social Media locations in which I have joined either due to fascination or perceived agreement.

Just so you can peg me, allow me to sum up where I stand. I am a Christian Conservative. There are many elements of Neoconservatism that I concur (America first National Interests, Strong Military, not backing down to threats to the American way of life (which does mean meddling in the domestic issues of foreign nations if those nations are determined to mess with America) and Biblical Moral concepts as highlighted through the lens of the New Testament (which means I am a very strong Social Conservative).

Keeping that stand in mind this translates into Big Government is evil domestically yet essential for National Security in foreign relations, I am huge with the rule of law to be viewed via the Original Intent of the U.S. Constitution. I also have a huge distrust of all transformative ideals of the American and global Left (which tends to desire Big Government statism, top-down collectivist despotism, anti-Christian Secular Humanism, a diluted moral society and a basic anti-Capitalist/anti-Free Market economic system. In other words, the Left agenda is representative of EVERYTHING that will degrade and ultimately destroy American Liberty and the Pursuit of individual Happiness.

Also, you should be aware I am a huge supporter of Israel being a Jewish State as well as perceiving the theopolitical doctrines of Islam as antithetical to everything American and Christian. This also pegs me as a Christian Zionist and a Counterjihadist. Both concepts are viewed by the Left as either anti-Palestine or an Islamophobic racist.

If understanding the only Palestine that ever came close to existing was in ancient history an insult to Jews and in modern history a designation for the Jewish return to a national homeland that have been expelled from over and over. Understandably, the Jewish desire for the return of their homeland might be different than my Christian desire for the Jews to have their homeland returned. My Christian perspective is that the return of Israel is a sign of the return of Jesus Christ (who face it, will come to the Jews first and then the rest of the Christians who believe). Whatever the differentia is between Jewish and Christian goals for the existence of Israel, the end goal is the same.

There is one point that too many Christians fail to understand about the Jews. Both religious and secular Jews have a huge reason to mistrust Christians. As non-Jewish Christians began to dominate the faith, some theological rocket scientists … err, I mean Christian intelligentsia, began to teach that ALL Jews are responsible for the death of Jesus Christ. Thus, irrelevant of the Christian leg or denomination (e.g. but not limited to – Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Protestant), the moniker of Christ-killers was brainwashed into the minds of Christian adherents. Sadly, some Christian still use the Antisemitic moniker today. I’ll go into the reasons why this moniker is idiotic to perpetuate later.

Due to the Christ-killer moniker levelled against Jews, European Christians spent a huge part of their history persecuting Jews that included forced migrations, brutal violence, theft and murder. AND this is the reason present day Jews have a huge distrust of Christian motives. Again sadly, what is left of Middle Eastern Christians have this Christ-killer Jew-hatred still ingrained into their psyche. That is one sad explanation Middle Eastern Christians might display the same hatred of Jews that Jew-hating Muslims are disposed to act out as well.

I am a Counterjihadist not just because of Islamic terrorism so prevalent in this day and age, but also because the Quran, Hadith and Sunnah of Islam has Jew-hatred and Christian-hatred actually ingrained in these revered writings. My perspective makes Islam an Antichrist religion. Yup, that bugs me.

NOW, if you have come to this post because of Social Media, I am fairly certain there are aspects of where I stand you either agree with or disagree with AND if you are a Leftist you probably disagree with my entire stand.

As an American I believe everyone has the Right to disagree without fear of retribution on my part. I mean if I have rattled your cage to a vivid angry emotion, your Liberty enables you to choose not to read my thoughts or dispositions. In contrast my Liberty means I am free not to read another’s disposition. The idiom I like for this Liberty is: “Agree to disagree”.

Now here’s the rub of Social Media disagreement for me. I like reading and boning up on Conspiracy Theories. Also, I belong to some Social Media that espouses my Counterjihad thoughts but are a bit too far to the Right for my comfort zone. The unfortunate difficulty I run into from those Social Media Communities is a blatant Antisemitism that blames all Jews for all the ails of the world. I got to tell you, that chaps my hide.

Below is a comment of disagreement one had with my post “Disagreement on Conspiracy Theory Pt 2” at the Google Plus Community Global Info Exchange Our Community!

The link to the G+ comment at this site is HERE. The comment there duly chastised me for flirting with Conspiracy Theories informing me they don’t do that community. So now I have to remember to avoid conspiracies at that G+ location. The second comment by Shawn Jones got me into “chaps my hide” mode.

In full disclosure, I did perform a spell check on Shawn and my posts at the G+ community. So if you do go to the G+ site for varication you will notice slight variations in both our posts. Indeed, I have a feeling that Shawn might respond with a bit of his/her own chap-hide moment. The reason: Shawn is a person that obviously blames the Jews for all the ills of planet earth.

Actually Shawn, the Jews are probably the longest victims of idiotic Conspiracy Theories. If that is the sense you are thinking then you’d be correct. ALSO, the reality is Jews are not big fans of the Crusader image. The ***Crusaders slaughtered Jews in Jerusalem more than they did Muslims because of the idiotic conspiracy accusation of “Christ-Killers”.

A majority of the Sanhedrin Pharisees and Sadducees set up a crowd crying “Crucify Him” while barring the Jewish believers in Christ’s Messiahship before Pilate. Pilate ordered the scourging and Crucifixion. Romans forced Christ in humiliation down the Via Dolorosa, it was Romans that drove spikes through Christ’s hands and feet and it was a Roman that drove a spear through the side of Jesus to make sure He was dead.

Sounds to me if you want to blame an ancient people in modern times, you might want to look at Italians and not Jews.

But hey, Jesus said on the Cross before He died, “Father, forgive them, they know what they do”. Whoever to blame for Christ’s death is irrelevant. Jesus forgave, meaning the Father forgave. Then Jesus arose bodily from the tomb for ALL who believe to receive forgiveness of sins. Blame is idiotic.

***While Writing This I sense the need to justify the Crusader icon I use to any Jewish readers that happen by.

As mentioned above, I am aware of the reason that Jews are offended by a Crusader icon. I have adopted the imagery of a Crusader Knight because it drives Muslims crazy that believe their theopolitical religion is perfect, peaceful and just. As I have already mentioned, the Islamic revered writings not only insult/condemn Jews but also condemn the central beliefs of the Christian faith. Islam condemns:

That Jesus is the Son of God.

That Jesus was Crucified.

That Jesus arose bodily from the tomb.

That Jesus is both fully human and fully God (essential for Salvation).

And these Antichrist issues are just ones I can think of off the top of my head.

I am aware that religious Jews also have a problem Jesus as the Son of God and the bodily Resurrection of Jesus from death to life. Unlike Muslims, Jews will not threaten to hunt me down and lop off my head for my Christian faith. As a Christian I believe religious Jews will accept Jesus as Messiah when the see the Second Coming of this son of David. Again the Second Coming of Jesus probably is not tickling heart of joy for religious Jews before His return. But I look at it this way.

Every single Apostles of Jesus (The Twelve) were Jewish. Even the traitor Judas Iscariot. The Apostle Thomas was the last to believe in Jesus’ Resurrection from death to life. WHY?

Thomas wanted to see the Resurrected Jesus complete with the scars left by the Crucifixion.

John 20: 24-29 NKJV

²⁴Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. ²⁵The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.”

So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”

²⁶And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!” ²⁷Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”

²⁸And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”

²⁹Jesus said to him, “Thomas,^[a] because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Take note that Jesus was not pleased with Thomas’ disbelief, but simply said bless are who believe without seeing. If one is a Christian, he believes without seeing. At Christ’s Second Coming, it is my belief the Doubting Thomas Jews will believe when they see Him. Jews simply missed out on the blessing because of unbelief. No blessing doesn’t mean a curse. It merely means you missed when you could have had it earlier.

Iran WMD to the Left and Right of US

President Barack Hussein Obama believes his will is absolute in his agenda. That is the only explanation for attitudes such as “I have a pen and a phone and I know how to use them” as well as the warning that he will “veto” any Congressional action against his Nuke Iran Deal. In order to get public support he is employing a political tactic he used to get elected in 2008 and 2012 and to whip up voter support from the beginning of his Presidency right on through the present: HE LIES.

The Constitutional recourse against this despotic President is embodied in the first words of the U.S. Constitution: WE THE PEOPLE.

Article II Section 2 Clause 2

The President… shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur….

From the Heritage Foundation:

The Treaty Clause has a number of striking features. It gives the Senate, in James Madison’s terms, a “partial agency” in the President’s foreign-relations power. The clause requires a supermajority (two-thirds) of the Senate for approval of a treaty, but it gives the House of Representatives, representing the “people,” no role in the process.

Midway through the Constitutional Convention, a working draft had assigned the treaty-making power to the Senate, but the Framers, apparently considering the traditional role of a nation-state’s executive in making treaties, changed direction and gave the power to the President, but with the proviso of the Senate’s “Advice and Consent.” In a formal sense, then, treaty-making became a mixture of executive and legislative power. Most people of the time recognized the actual conduct of diplomacy as an executive function, but under Article VI treaties were, like statutes, part of the “supreme Law of the Land.” Thus, as Alexander Hamilton explained in The Federalist No. 75 … (Treaty Clause – Heritage Guide to the Constitution; By Michael D. It is doubtful that the U.S. Senate would ratify a Nuke Deal with Iran such as currently negotiated with Iran. So how does Obama make the Deal a done deal? By using the Legalese of an Executive Order that does not need Senate approval:

How can Obama sign a nuclear arms deal with Iran without submitting that agreement to the Senate?

The same way that Obama has rewritten federal immigration and education law without Congress: by expanding executive power.

Obama will claim that his deal with Iran is not a treaty but a “sole executive agreement” that requires no approval from Congress. Sole executive agreements have been used by presidents since the early 1800s, but the exact scope of this power has long been in question. The Supreme Court has allowed many such agreements to stand (e.g. Dames & Moore v. Regan or American Insurance Ass’n v. Garamendi), but the Court has always required at least some evidence that Congress at least acquiesced to those policies.

The sole executive agreement power has also been used to end formal arms treaties, most recently by President Bush in 2001 when he unilaterally exited the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty with Russia. However, new arms deals have almost always been submitted to the Senate for approval, including Bush’s 2002 Strategic Offensive Reductions Treaty with Russia. According to the analysis of Congressional options on overriding an Obama Nuke Deal Executive Order with Iran, the deal is subject to a – for or against – Resolution from Congress. It is likely Congress’ Joint Resolution under a Republican Congress will be disapproval. However, under the Obama promise to veto any Joint Resolution throwing a monkey wrench in Obama’s Nuke Deal Executive Order. This means instead of the Senate needing a 2/3 majority to ratify a treaty, both Houses of Congress can only override an Obama veto with BOTH Houses drumming a 2/3 vote:

Now that more than a year and a half of nuclear negotiations are in the books, attention on a signature legacy item for President Barack Obama now shifts to Congress.

Here’s a brief overview of what happens next:

· Once Congress receives the details of the deal, it will have 60 days to debate and vote on it, according to the terms of the law Obama signed in May. A GOP congressional aide told Business Insider that it has not yet received the details.

· If Congress sends a joint resolution of disapproval to Obama (meaning both chambers of Congress disapprove of the deal), it would trigger a new timeline. He would have 12 days to veto the resolution. That’s likely, considering his promise Tuesday morning to veto anything that would hamper the deal’s implementation.

· Following an Obama veto, Congress would have 10 days to vote to override his veto, which would require a two-thirds majority of both chambers of Congress.

· If both chambers vote to override, it would prevent Obama from suspending sanctions on Iran related to its nuclear program.

So now we come back to Founding Father original intention of WE THE PEOPLE. Make sure you write or call District Congressman and both of your Senators. Even if you have a Republican in the Congressman-Senator categories, make sure you write in case they are a RINO. If you have a Democratic Party Congressman and/or Senator you need to participate in a massive inundation of persuasive letters to let them know that agreeing with America’s despot-in-chief Obama will cause you to VOTE against them in their reelection bid in the next voting cycle. Contact local Tea Party organizations, local ACT for America chapters, Stop Islamization of America/American Freedom Defense Initiative organizers active in your area and/or any other organization that understands how completely deplorable this Iran deal is for American National Security. Contact your local Congressman and Senators with an invitation to a scheduled event. Perhaps that Congressman and Senators would be amiable to help in organizing the protest thus insuring media coverage.

Yesterday’s agreement should be an opportunity for most GOP presidential candidates to show up.

A mass rally that might attract tens of thousands of people is scheduled for next Wednesday 5:30 p.m. (EDT) at Times Square in New York City.

Police have planned for thousands of people to show up, but Tuesday’s agreement with Iran and the explosive opposition from Israel and the Jewish community in the United States is likely to draw much larger crowds.

The long-rage forecast is for temperatures in the 80s (Fahrenheit) and a 50 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms.

Speakers at the rally include:

It’s rare that we see an article like this published in a mainstream news outlet like The Hill. Abraham Miller lays out the truth about the grievance industry that groups like CAIR, the Council on American Islamic Relations, have created.

Their goal is simple: rather than embrace our shared constitutional values, they seek to be set aside as a special group — freedom of religion and expression for me, but not for thee. Groups like this refuse to acknowledge the fact that the majority of “hate crimes” committed are against Jews, rather than Muslims. Meanwhile, they use the language of the left to perpetuate their status as victims.

I’m pleasantly surprised to see something like this published in a major newspaper. Perhaps the horrors of the Islamic State’s violent jihad overseas is causing Americans to take notice of the soft jihad going on all around them.

Islamophobia: It’s a growth industry

Taking time off from the crucifixions and decapitations to burn a Yazidi woman to death for refusing to perform a vile sex act, Islamic State’s home-field hard jihad is alive and well, while back at the University of California, Berkeley, the more palatable soft jihad is also alive and well.

The sixth annual Islamophobia conference was underway in a lecture hall sparsely populated by a complement of the usual suspects, women in hijabs and panel presenters working diligently to turn Islamophobia into another respected academic field based on oppression studies.

The gadfly of the movement is Berkeley instructor Hatem Bazian, a self-proclaimed authority on the subject. When not justifying Islamist violence in the streets of Europe as a response to Islamophobia or calling for an American Intifada from the streets of San Francisco, Bazian can be heard rattling off the names of Jewish donors to the Berkeley campus to show the alleged disproportionate influence of Jews in campus affairs. Bazian maintains a studied silence about the Saudi largess that sustains his own department of Near Eastern studies.

But then Bazian has seldom let facts intrude on an emotional appeal grounded in prejudice. Despite the fanfare about the supposed legitimacy of Islamic studies in the Oppression department, neither the presence of Islamophobia courses nor the data on ant-Islamic hate crimes seems to bear that out.

There is the inconvenient reality of FBI crime statistics. Of religious-oriented hate crimes, 62 percent are directed against Jews, and 12 percent — a distant second — are directed against Muslims. If one were to make the inferential leap that the same groups that target Jews in Europe target them in America and the anti-Semitism evident on campus does not stop at the campus gate, then it is clear who is responsible for a large portion of that anti-Semitism.

As Bazian prepares to run off to an Islamophobic conference in Paris, industry leader CAIR (Council of American Islamic Relations) launched a fundraising letter to rouse the faithful and the naïve to part with their money to stop the “threat” of Islamophobia.

Poster girl for the CAIR fundraising letter is Nina Rosenwald, a well-known philanthropist and granddaughter of Julius Rosenwald, the famed Chicago patron of African-American causes, who left half of his $68,000,000 fortune to African-American charities and partnered with Booker T. Washington to create Tuskegee University.

CAIR’s dispute with Rosenwald centers on her support for pro-Israel causes. To be pro-Israel is not to be anti-Muslim, as CAIR would have its donors believe. Among other charitable work, Rosenwald is actively involved in the American Friends of the Open University of Israel, a distance-learning program that provides access to higher education to all residents of Israel, regardless of faith or ethnicity.

If anything, it might be CAIR that should account for its activities. Its connections to Hamas, a listed terrorist group, do not make for credibility and are the source for the FBI ceasing connections with the self-proclaimed civil liberties group.

Recently, CAIR has been in the news opposing the showing of the biopic “American Sniper,” joining a chorus of Islamic campus voices that label it anti-Muslim. But, it would seem that either CAIR’s sensitivities are overdeveloped, or American servicemen like Sniper’s Chris Kyle are not deserving of heroic status.

While the two issues are not mutually exclusive, CAIR’s San Francisco chapter executive-director Zahra Billoo at least made it clear that she struggles each Memorial Day whether to honor American soldiers who died in wars that she considers unjust.

That kind of statement, like the outrage against the biopic of an American hero who kept some Muslims safe from other Muslims who wanted to kill them, undermines CAIR’s goal of making Islam a positive force in American life. It does far more harm to the status of Islam in America than the political positions, real or imaginary, of any group that Nina Rosenwald might fund.

Hatem Bazian does not speak for those Muslim students seeking to integrate into the fabric of American pluralistic society, who are not about exploiting a faux Islamophobia, but about getting a degree and contributing to the greater good. CAIR’s Zahra Billoo’s Memorial Day reflections do not honor the memory of those Muslim-American soldiers who died alongside their comrades in America’s wars.

The Bazians and Billoos notwithstanding, those of us who have taught in universities know that there are thousands of Muslim students who would never attend a Bazian political circus with its message of victimhood. Equally, the majority of Muslims in our community are concerned more about their future as Americans than about supporting Middle East terrorist groups.

Perhaps CAIR might consider showcasing some of these people rather than maligning a third-generation philanthropist as an Islamophobe simply because she disagrees with CAIR’s policies in the Middle East.

This is America. We can agree to disagree. CAIR is free to attack our heroes and our symbols, just as we are free to call them out for it. But if CAIR wants Americans to see Islam as a positive force in American life, it might want to rethink its message.

Support Z Street Non-Profit Status

I’m about to embark on a post that is essentially very pro-Z Street. Which should be distinguished from another organization known as J Street. Both organizations claim to be Pro-Israel with a Jewish-American background. Both claim to be Pro-Jewish State. The thing is Z Street recognizes that the Arabs that call themselves Palestinians are dedicated to destroy Israel. J Street is dedicated to establishing a Palestinian State even if that creation leads to the demise of Israel.

Now in full disclosure I am not Jewish. My love for Israel and its existence is based on my Christian Right Biblical faith which would label me as a Christian Zionist. That means for me Israel’s restoration to their land and having full sovereignty of that land is a sign that the Second Coming of Jesus Christ will be sooner rather than later.

From a Christian Zionist’s perspective Eretz Israel was promised by God Almighty to the descendants of Abraham and on through the child of Promise – Isaac and on through Isaac’s son Jacob and the descendants of his 12 sons who aggregately is the Land of Israel (Eretz Israel).

As I was saying I am not Jewish, but since I became a Born Again Christian at age 20 I recall a story told to me in hushed tones when I was a teenager. I can’t remember how this conversation between myself and my Grandmother had taken of the topic of Jews. I do remember my Grandmother (a young woman in the Great Depression era) nearly whispered and I have to rely on a paraphrase:

“John, you know we have Jew in our background. Those Jews in our background were German Jews who immigrated to America ….”

As a teenage I didn’t pay too much attention to family stories as I should have. I was more interested in going outside with my pals to play pick-up games of football and basketball back in the early 1970s. My Grandmother’s understanding of “Jews” was something she still felt the stigma to mention. Antisemitism had not entered America’s national guilt culturally really too slowly after the horrors of the Holocaust became a confirmed public knowledge until after WWII. Thus the stigma of her generation still led to revealing a Jewish ancestry in hushed tones.

Again I have to be honest about the Jewish family tree. My Grandmother was a bit of a stinker. Sometimes she would make up tales as a learning exercise. In my teen days, to put it nicely, I had developed a personality trait of frugality. In those days there was still an abundance of racial slurs of people who were a bit tight with their money or possessions; viz. the Scottish (often spoke of being Scotch in the pejorative sense), the Dutch and – wait for it – the Jews. So in actuality, largely to my teenage inattentiveness, I am not sure was speaking of a family history or telling be more of sharing person.

Some years later my Uncle (Grandma’s oldest son, Mom’s eldest brother) had undertaken the hobby of family trees with his second wife (he was widowed). He spoke of our family being related some German Jews that settled in Pennsylvania with the surname Zonhiser (or Zonizer or Zohnizer or etc. – not at all sure of a spelling, my guesses are all my memory of phonetic sounds). Ironically a brief search at forbears.io shows 9 instances in Pennsylvania all in Mercer County. My Uncle would not elaborate especially by time his 3^rd marriage (widowed again). Anyway, moving on … back to Z Street.

Z Street has gone one step closer to winning a lawsuit against the IRS for refusing to give the Pro-Israel group a non-profit status based on their views; viz. being Jewish and Pro-Israel. From American Thinker:

The IRS was almost laughed out of court yesterday when the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral arguments in the case Z Street v. Koskinen [Blog Editor: IRS Commissioner]. Z Street, founded by AT contributor Lori Lowenthal Marcus, is a pro-Israel educational group that applied for tax-exempt status, only to encounter delay. When it inquired as to the progress of its application, an agent told it that auditors had been instructed to give pro-Israel groups special attention, and that its application had been forwarded to a special IRS unit for additional review.

Z Street sued for viewpoint discrimination, a constitutional no-no, and the IRS went to U.S. District Court in D.C., seeking dismissal of the case. A year ago, a federal judge rejected that dismissal, and the IRS appealed, which landed the case on the docket of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, the highest court in the land other than the Supreme Court. The appeal, critically, had the effect of halting discovery in the case, which would have allowed Z Street to examine IRS officials, under oath, and to receive internal communications from the agency regarding the special unit and special procedures for handling pro-Israel groups.

The Wall Street Journal’s Review & Outlook column reports on the incredulity with which the three-judge panel greeted the IRS’s arguments. This was a truly extraordinary event, for it is a rare day that a high-level court reacts so negatively to the positions taken by the federal government.

The IRS still has the option of appealing to the Supreme Court, further delaying discovery. Obviously, the game is to delay disclosure of embarrassing IRS policies until after the 2016 election. Here is Lori Lowenthal Marcus, the founder of Z Street, on the Leftist agenda of J Street:

We see J Street as being very similar to the Arab leadership. This means that they are very happy to say one thing in English and something completely different in Arabic. J Street says something for general consumption; they say that they are pro-Israel. They say that they are Jewish. However, in fact Judaism seems to play almost no role. They talk about Jewish values but they use a scalpel and remove any of the Judaism part of Jewish values. What is left are simply “social justice” issues. That’s a huge concern. It is appealing to lots of people if you say the word Jewish but remove the Jewish content. I think that is very dangerous because you are allowing people to think that they are acting on Jewish impulses when in fact they are taking actions that are anti-Israel and actually contrary to Judaism. We believe in defending the Jewish state as a pro-Israel Jewish viewpoint and value. J Street is sending the opposite message. I think that is very dangerous. The reason they are still around, the reason they burst on the scene in such a huge way and at such a high level is because of the millions of dollars behind them. J Street had the backing of people with enormous amounts of money. By that I mean George Soros. He gave money later but he did provide his reputation early on. That is why they have staying power. It is very hard to compete with millions of dollars, fancy parties and lots of attractive glossy advertising, mailing and promotional material. All of that is very seductive. J Street is a very seductive organization that is devoid of Jewish values and pro-Israel sentiment. Even though this Jerry Gordon post was written in 2011, a little further down the post Gordon asks a question that should give you a clue for the IRS has lumped Z Street with Conservative and Tea Party organizations seeking a non-profit status from the IRS:

Gordon: Why do you believe that the Obama White House views J Street as the “go-to American Jewish Organization” and not AIPAC?

Marcus: Because J Street reflects the views of the Obama Administration and not what is best for Israel. AIPAC is all about promoting a strong Israel- U.S. relationship. J Street is all about promoting a strong Barack Obama. (Ibid.)

Judges Destroy IRS Defense in Political Targeting Case

The Internal Revenue Service stunned a panel of D.C. Circuit Court judges on Monday by implying that it could discriminate against certain groups seeking nonprofit status for up to 270 days, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The three-judge panel was hearing a case related to Z Street, a pro-Israel group that is suing the IRS for discrimination after its nonprofit application was held up by the agency. Last May, a federal judge tossed out the IRS’s motion to dismiss the suit, but the agency is appealing the decision.

The IRS’s legal strategy has been to claim Z Street is suing to obtain non-profit status. According to government rules, a nonprofit applicant has grounds to sue the IRS if it doesn’t act on an application within 270 days—a waiting period the IRS says Z Street did not meet.

Z Street has repeatedly stated that it is suing the IRS for discrimination, not to obtain non-profit status. An IRS official reportedly told the group during its application process that the agency was singling the organization for extra scrutiny.

As Senator Ted Cruz said, “the single most important tax reform” we can accomplish is to abolish the IRS.

Not only does the United States have one of the most progressive tax systems in the world, but its tax collection agency, the Internal Revenue Service, has been hijacked by the current administration and used as a weapon against anyone who disagrees with Obama’s radical agenda. While at the same time, they allow tax cheats like Al Sharpton, who owes millions in back taxes, to roam free and host a show on MSNBC all because he spews the White House approved propaganda.

Recently, when Lois Lerner and the IRS came under subpoena of the United States House of Representatives for targeting conservatives and limited-government supporters, they managed to “lose” tens of thousands of possibly incriminating emails.

Enough is enough.

It’s time for everyday Americans to take a stand against this crony institution.

Unbelievably the same IRS that targeted Conservative organizations looking for 501c(3) and 501c(4) tax status has reinstated the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as a tax exempt organization. The same CAIR that was stripped of the status for failing to file adequate returns AND still has not done has been reinstated to tax exempt status. Oh yes, the IRS has restored tax exempt status to the same CAIR that still is listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation (HLF) trial in which convictions were handed out to HLF members for gathering tax exempt donations that were then passed on the Islamic terrorist organization Hamas. AND in case you haven’t heard Hamas is a Jew-hating terrorist organization dedicated to the destruction of Israel and often kills Jewish civilians oft times in a horrendous bloody fashion.

The first is a WorldNetDaily story that begins this way:

You can thank the Electronic Privacy Information Center for forcing the Department of Homeland Security to release its list of “keywords” that are used by its agents to monitor you on Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites.

The story then lists the various “key words,” and here’s what’s revealing. You’ll find “militia” but not “jihad.” In fact, you won’t find any “key word” that links specifically to radical Islam.
