Special Issue on the Attempted Coup in Turkey

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan allegedly accused Gulen to be behind the attempted coup while making an address to his supporters upon his arrival at Istanbul Ataturk airport in the early hours of 16 July 2016. According to news reports Erdogan denounced the thwarted coup as an 'act of treason' and affirmed his government remains in charge. EPA/FGULEN.COM / HANDOUT HANDOUT EDITORIAL USE ONLY/NO SALES

I am not a big fan of the Gulen (aka Hizmet) Movement. At worst the movement is a clandestine Islamist movement disguised as a moderate Muslim peaceful interfaith dialogue organization OR at best it is Islam’s version of a brainwashing Scientology-like cult.

Ari Bussel sent me this Gulen Movement perspective of the attempted coup in Turkey which President Recep Erdogan blamed the influential Gulen Movement in Turkey. Erdogan used the coup attempt to execute a Nazi-style purge of his enemy rivals which included thousands of Fethullah Gulen followers in Turkey.

Ari Bussel sent the Pacifica Institute version of the account without comment. Pacifica totally exonerates its fearless leader Fethullah Gulen who actually lives in an obscure compound in the USA in exile from Turkey. Indeed, Gulen has lived in the USA for quite some time operating as a stealth Islam interfaith advocate. I use the word “stealth” because I am more convinced Gulen’s moderation is more for show than actual, much like the numerous Muslim Brotherhood front groups in America such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Special Issue on the Attempted Coup in Turkey

Pacifica Institute

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Pacifica Institute.

As many of you may already be aware, Turkey is going through a very difficult time nowadays. We are deeply concerned about the ongoing situation in the country and we, as Pacifica Institute, strongly condemn this attempted military coup. A coup of any sort defies the democratic process, and we stand opposed to such a hostile and violent attempt at toppling the democratically elected government in Turkey.

We would like to share the following information for those of you who might be interested in reviewing the developments as they took place. We sincerely hope that this issue is resolved quickly and in the best interest of Turkey and its citizens.

What happened?

  • On Friday night, a group of middle-ranking Turkish soldiers attempted a coup
  • Their focus was on Ankara and Istanbul, taking control of the Istanbul’s bridges, airports, the Turkish parliament, and some police stations
  • Their attempted coup was ill-planned and badly executed
  • Their efforts were thwarted by the police aided by the huge public support
  • 161 people killed, including members of the coup; 1,500 wounded; 3,000 soldiers arrested
  • The government has blamed the attempted coup on the Gulen movement. Some government ministers have also blamed the US as being behind the coup.

Who is behind this attempted coup?

  • We really do not know. It is too early to say.
  •  Erdogan is using the incident as a pretext to purge those associated with the Hizmet Movement from any position affiliated with the state, society and to further smear the Movement in general
  • For example, while it was reported that 47 military officers were involved in the coup, as of now, almost 3,000 officers, including tens of generals have been arrested. Furthermore, the Higher Board of Judges and Prosecutors sacked 2745 judges and prosecutors including ten of its own members. Already tens of appellate judiciary judges are detained by orders from the Ankara Prosecutor.
  • How did the government determine the culpability of 2745 judges overnight in a coup orchestrated by a fraction of the military? Clearly, these are people the government wanted to get rid of anyway and is using this opportunity to do so.

Has Gulen condemned the coup?

  • Absolutely and unequivocally
  • In the early hours of the coup, the Alliance for Shared Values, an organization that speaks on behalf of Gulen, condemned the coup attempt. This was followed by a personal statement by Gulen, and by leading Gulen inspired organizations condemning the coup without if’s and but’s.
  • Gulen’s condemnation was picked up by the world press, including the FT.

So why has Erdogan blamed Gulen for this coup?

  • Gulen and Hizmet is Erdogan’s “default scapegoat”. Whenever something happens that he does not approve, he blames it on Gulen.
  • Be it a condemnatory letter from 75 US Senators on Turkey; to corruption investigations; to something [else ridiculous]. Gulen becomes a pretext to purge state and society of anyone not entirely loyal.
  • It is far easier to blame this on Gulen because that is a narrative the public have already come to accept. Also, by claiming that the Gulen movement is everywhere, blaming this military act on Gulen allows Erdogan to strike elsewhere on pretext that they are one and the same.

How did Turkish people stood with President Erdogan against the military?

  • Erdogan’s support among the Turkish electorate was approximately 40-50 per cent before this coup. So he already had widespread support.
  • Even those staunchly critical of Erdogan and the government condemned the coup and stood by the government.
  • Crucially, the coup plotters failed to project the sense that their coup was succeeding which coup experts point out as crucial.
  • There was no support for a military takeover by the Turkish people

Why have the people opposed Erdogan in the past? What has he done that has made people so unhappy?

  • In his 1st and 2nd terms, Erdogan ran a reforming government.
  • However, from 2010 onwards, Erdogan became increasingly authoritarian as he began to pursue more populist Islamist policies. The summer 2013 Gezi park protests was in reaction to this authoritarianism which Erdogan labelled as a coup of the “interest rate lobby”, a euphemism for the Jewish lobby.
  • This authoritarian streak gained momentum when a series of corruption investigations implicating Erdogan’s inner circle went public in December 2013 onwards. To suppress the substantial evidence and judicial investigations, Erdogan fought back to control and colonize the judiciary, media and civil society to crush all forms of dissent.
  • Many people are unhappy with the resulting authoritarian regime.

Aftermath – As of 19 July evening

  • 29,464 suspended from civil service
  • 1,577 deans were asked to resign
  • 21,000 teachers in private schools had their licences revoked
  • 6,319 soldiers are in custody
  • 950 civilians arrested
  • 3 newspapers were denied printing facilities
  • 20 news websites were blocked in Turkey
  • 2,745 members of the judiciary were among the suspended civil service personnel.

What now?

  • Erdogan has already won. There won’t be any meaningful opposition to his witch-hunt against opposition groups from now on.
  • Till now, the Chief of General Staff resisted Erdogan’s attempts of redesigning the military. The Chief of staff has now given into that.
  • Having attained complete loyalty from Turkish state and civil society structures, Erdogan next stop is likely to be the Turkish diaspora overseas.
  • We are already seeing coordinated attacks against Hizmet overseas and this is likely to continue.
  • For the past 6 years Erdogan has been creating formal and informal structures through which to mobilize the Turkish-speaking and increasingly wider Muslim communities.

Fethullah Gulen issued the following statement on recent developments in Turkey

I condemn, in the strongest terms, the attempted military coup in Turkey. Government should be won through a process of free and fair elections, not force. I pray to God for Turkey, for Turkish citizens, and for all those currently in Turkey that this situation is resolved peacefully and quickly.

As someone who suffered under multiple military coups during the past five decades, it is especially insulting to be accused of having any link to such an attempt. I categorically deny such accusations.

“On the occasion of the latest incident (coup attempt in Turkey), I can say that, if there is such a claim that there were people [among the perpetrators] whom I knew, whom I motivated and lead, people who acted with my orders, let’s have an international committee investigate this matter. Let them investigate if there was such a thing and let them make a decision. I will comply with whatever the result is, even if it is a lie… I will comply even if the committee is bribed and signs and fills papers that calumniate. But only a big international organization should do the investigation, in my humble opinion”

Q: What is your position on this coup attempt and the claims that you are involved in this?

A: I condemn and reject any coup whatsoever. I deplore and reject any coup attempt as well. I would raise my arms and would stop them saying that “this is a dead-end”, even against considerations of a coup, as the famous Turkish poet Necip Fazil said… This has always has been my general attitude; and my attitude will never change. If even the people who would like to drink my blood would come to the power through democratic elections, I would never consider or approve them being taken down through anti-democratic ways and methods. I do not and will never consider or approve such an attempt. Even if they [those elected] would drink my blood, I would go among people who are trying to bring them down and raise my arms and tell them this is dead-end.

Q: Do you know why the president (Erdogan) needed to bring your name up in this [coup attempt]?

A: He (Mr. Erdogan) has always had a reaction to those who do not obey him since the beginning.

As I previously expressed in other occasions, maybe, he was concealing some of his feelings.

There are things they were not able to achieve worldwide. People in the Hizmet Movement opened schools in 170 countries.

They tried to open Yunus Emre houses in 14-15 locations but they could not be successful. Turkish Olympiads displeased them.

Before founding the [AK] Party, he came to consult with me about founding the party. I met with him twice. One is when he came to ask my opinion about founding the [AK] Party. I suppose, he went to other people as well. It was not only a matter of asking opinion but also seeking support. I expressed my own considerations at the time.

Then my friends told me this. After he met with me in the 5th floor (Altunizade, Istanbul), when he was in the elevator, he said to the person next to him “we need to defeat them, vanquish them first.”

That is, they do not want any alternative formation, any service to exist.

Q: What is your opinion about the possibility that they (the Turkish gov’t) staged this coup attempt themselves; are there any findings that suggest this?

A: In my opinion, how the incident took place is not like a coup. It is more like a sham. High level officers were not involved. In the past, coups were staged by high-level army officers, like generals etc.

I do not know what level officers were involved in the latest attempt. But in terms of how it took place, it seems more like a scenario to me.

There are also rumors. Some people approach the matter in a way that suggests ‘they plotted it themselves to strengthen their power, to do the retrenchment he wanted to do.’

There are also his (Erdogan’s) statements afterwards. He said things like “Now our hand became stronger. We can easily fire the army officers whom we wanted to fire on the basis of this [coup attempt] category.”

When we bring all these together, it is what we make sense of the entire statements made before and after the incident.

We cannot say it absolutely. Saying, ‘it clearly happened this way’ would be an imputation. However, it is one of the possibilities that come to mind based on the considerations I mentioned.

Q: Is there any message that you would like to send out to the people of Turkey?

A: One one side, we hear certain allegations and discomfort from certain groups of people. On the other side, we see certain people being exposed to oppression and suffering; they are being crushed under the allegation of horrendous acts. I would like to ask all of them to keep their calm. I would suggest that they not rush into any conclusions. Time is the most significant interpreter we have. Let us allow time to interpret, uncover and resolve this issue.

Also, Allah (God Almighty), whom we have full faith in, will allow for the truth to come out sooner or later. And every person will then see things for what they truly are.

Indeed, we must not lose our balance. The nation of Turkey, the people have been polarized and separated greatly. The repair that is needed requires a great effort on all our part. Society needs to undergo a rehabilitation process. In this respect, it would be wrong to bring about new wounds and tears.

The integrity and togetherness of the society.. that is what needs to be preserved.. and whatever that may require, we must do what we need to do.

Some Coloradans feel backlash of failed coup in Turkey

AURORA, Colo. — We’re thousands of miles from the trouble in Turkey after a failed attempt to overthrow the government. But some Coloradans are feeling the backlash.

They are supporters of Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, who is accused of spearheading the uprising. The Multicultural Mosaic Foundation is a nonprofit established by Turkish-Americans in Colorado in 2003.

Their main source of inspiration is Gulen. Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Gulen and his supporters are terrorists. But Gulen’s supporters say that claim is laughable.

After the gunfire rang out and more than 265 people died, government supporters stopped the military from overthrowing Erdogan.

“To see bombs thrown at bridges, military attack civilians, this is heart break,” said Ismail Akbulut, president of Multicultural Mosaic Foundation in Aurora.

For Akbulut, of Superior, that wouldn’t be the end of it. The accusations came next.

“They held the movement responsible for what was going on in Turkey,” he said.

Multicultural Mosaic Foundation is affiliated with the Gulen movement, named after the famed cleric, who Turkey’s president called the head terrorist who plotted the uprising.

But Akbulut said Gulen’s movement is about peace, pro-democracy and bringing people together without religion or politics.

“He preached for more than 40 years nonviolence. He is referenced as the Turkish Mahatma Gandhi,” he said.

But accusations by Erdogan still spark anger.

“People who we called friends in the U.S., in Colorado, wrote on Facebook, called us terrorists, threatened us,” said Akbulut.

One message said, “If you truly like Turkey and you would like to do something good, go ahead destroy yourself because we don’t want to make our hands dirty.”

Another said in an email: “I don’t want to be subscribed on the list of a terrorist group trying to overthrow a democratically-elected government …”

“We have a culture center here. We feel we could be attacked by supporters of Erdogan,” Akbulut said.

Erdogan supporters already vandalized a cultural center affiliated with Gulen in Lyon, France.

“Turkey was doing a few years ago a good job promoting democracy. Now it’s turning into a dictatorship,” said Akbulut.

Erdogan demanded the United States extradite Gulen to Turkey from Pennsylvania. And the U.S. said it will if Turkey has evidence of Gulen’s involvement in the coup.

DENVER – After Turkish President Tayipp Erdogan reassured the country his government successfully stopped a military coup, he began pointing fingers at an exiled cleric living in Pennsylvania whose movement maintains followers around the world — including people in Colorado.

The Multicultural Mosaic Society in Denver is a group that follows the teachings of Fethullah Gulen. The group’s president, Ismail Akbulut, says he wasn’t surprised by the accusations. He says it’s led to violence and discrimination against people in the Gulen Movement.

“It is scary because some friends and family members are being targeted by individuals in Turkey motivated by Turkish president Erdogan. They are seeing them as terrorists so they target them individually, attack them physically and also on social media with death threats,” Akbulut said.

Experts at University of Denver agree with Akbulut. Director of Middle East Studies at the University, Nadar Hashemi, finds the accusations to be farfetched but not surprising when considering the relationship history between Erdogan and Gulen. In 2013, documents and audio was leaked exposing corruption within the Turkish government and it’s widely believed that the Gulen Movement was behind it.

“Since then Erdogan has basically been on a campaign to completely eradicate the Gulen Movement from Turkish society and I think he is using the coup now as an opportunity to try and settle scores suggesting that he is going to demand the extradition of Fethullah Gulen from the United States even hinting that U.S.-Turkish relations and relations between Turkey and NATO could be put in jeopardy if the united states doesn’t comply with his request,” Nadar said.

But the Gulen Movement’s not a violent one despite the Erdogan led government labeling the group as a terrorist organization. Hashemi says it’s a civil society, religious based movement that does social welfare work. Gulen promoted interfaith communication and perhaps most notably, education.

Gulen inspired schools have popped up all over the world with a focus on S.T.E.M. education and English language learning outside of the US. Several hundred secular charter schools exist in the United States, including the Lotus School of Excellence in Aurora.

Hashemi says these schools generally have a good reputation but there have been investigations into questionable financial management of the schools run largely by Turkish immigrants who follow the teachings of Gulen.

“They finance the movement, they have schools around the world including several hundred charter schools here in the United States. It does have a certain hierarchal sort of authoritarian internal organizing capacity and component to it’s internal functioning,” Hashemi said.

The Colorado Board of Education denied to appeals for additional charter schools by Lotus citing “financial concerns, facility concerns, enrollment concerns” and a “lack of transparency.”

But the way schools are run probably aren’t an indication of Gulen’s involvement or lack-thereof in last week’s coup.

“It is sad to see people are going against other citizens, other friends because they are motivated by the Turkish president,” said Akbulut, worried about an Erdogan dictatorship. “I am completely against the military coup attempt. I am completely against the military regime. I am pro democracy.”

Pay Attention America – Civilization Jihad is Real

Muslim Brotherhood NOT the Only U.S. Infiltrators

John R. Houk

© December 19, 2015

Have you ever heard the term “Civilization Jihad”? It is a reference to Muslim immigrating to Western nations and infiltrating the local culture slowly instituting the tenets of the theopolitical ideology called Islam. Another term is Stealth Jihad.

Counterjihad writers have been playing Jeremiah telling their nations that Civilization Jihad is a very real practice taking place in the West to subvert our society, culture and essentially our Liberty that in the USA is insured by the U.S. Constitution.

The term first reared its ugly face in a Muslim Brotherhood document aimed at using stealth to transform North America into an Islamic dominated area. Check out this excerpt:

Under shariah, civilization jihad – a “pre-violent” form of jihad – is considered an integral, even dominant element of jihad that is at least as obligatory for shariah’s adherents as the violent kind.

Such tactics are ostensibly “non-violent” (and therefore “moderate”) not because the Muslim Brotherhood eschews violence out of principle, but because it has decided that this phase of battlefield preparation is better accomplished through stealthy means. Hence civilization jihad can be considered “stealth jihad.”

Civilization jihad is a form of political and psychological warfare that includes multi-layered cultural subversion, the co-opting of senior leaders, influence operations, propaganda and other means of insinuating shariah gradually into Western societies.

Origins of civilization jihad

We get the concept of civilization jihad from, among other sources, a document that was entered into evidence in the 2008 United States v Holy Land Foundation terrorist finance trial. The document, titled An Explanatory Memorandum: On the General Strategic Goal for the Group, was written in 1991 by Mohamed Akram, a senior Hamas leader in the United States and a member of the board of directors for the Muslim Brotherhood in North America.

The Explanatory Memorandum (click here for the original document in Arabic) explains that the Muslim Brotherhood-organized “Islamic Movement” in the US is a “settlement process” to establish itself in the United States and, once entrenched, to undertake a “grand jihad” characterized as a “civilization jihadist” mission under Muslim Brotherhood direction.

Specifically the document describes the “settlement process” as a “grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated.” READ ENTIRETY (‘Civilization Jihad’ – the Muslim Brotherhood’s Potent Weapon; ShariaTheThreat.org)

Also consider this excerpt:

Careful thought in this would go back to the first large amount of Muslims coming to America in 1962. Did they come for the purpose of jihad? This would account for the founders of the North American Muslim Brotherhood. It would also explain their usage of the term civilization jihad in 1991 when they defined their goals. It directs the Muslim migrant who came for jihad, on how to pursue that goal.

If Muslims coming here would have the purpose of jihad, you would expect them to:

1) You would expect to find communities of Muslims starting to request sharia law.

2) You would expect to find Muslims here coordinating new Muslims coming to the states into designatedareas for the furtherance of Islam and the declaration of sharia law.

3) Attempt to infiltrate every level of government for the purpose of subverting the constitution.

These things are happening today! 20,000 Syrian Muslims are slated to arrive in the USA between 2015 and 2016. Will America cease to be the land of the free and become dar al Islam (land of submission) if it does not wake up soon?

We have to fight and make America wake up NOW! (al-Hijrah: The secret Islamic doctrine of Migration for Jihad; By Paul Sutliff; Paul Sutliff on Civilization Jihad; 3/30/15)

The Muslim Brotherhood is not the only transnational purist Islamic organization that has an agenda for North America. For this post I am highlighting a purist group that chances are that you never heard of or at least know very little about. That purist Muslim group is the Gulen Movement founded by and actually operating from the USA – Fethullah Gulen.

The Center for Security Policy (CSP) via their Secure Freedom project has put together a 90 page document that you can purchase via Kindle and paperback from Amazon or even better as a PDF for free.

Gulen Movement is an Engine for “Civilization Jihad”

(Washington, D.C.): It has become increasingly apparent that the United States is not only confronting a violent effort by Islamic supremacists to impose the program they call shariah on the rest of the world, Muslim and non-Muslim, alike. Dangerous as jihadist terrorism is, America – and the rest of the Free World, for that matter – also face what amounts to a pre-violent assault.

The Muslim Brotherhood calls this stealthy, seditious effort to “destroy us from within” a “civilization jihad.” One of its prime practitioners in this country is the Gulen Movement, a cult/business empire led by a reclusive Turkish expatriate, Fethullah Gulen, who operates from within an armed camp in the Poconos.

For more information see: http://bit.ly/1ZfUZBb

This movement and its penetration of our country is the subject of an important new monograph published as part of the Center for Security Policy’s Civilization Jihad Reader Series: The Gulen Movement: Turkey’s Islamic Supremacist Cult and Its Contribution to Civilization Jihad in America. It is co-authored by two members of the Center’s senior leadership team: Vice President for Outreach Christopher Holton and Clare Lopez, Vice President for Research and Analysis.

As The Gulen Movement monograph makes clear, one of the most troubling aspects of this cult is its success in advancing the Islamic supremacist agenda – albeit under the guise of Turkish nationalism – via one of the fastest-growing networks of publicly funded charter schools in the United States.

Fethullah Gulen is wanted on multiple international arrest warrants issued by the regime of his one-time ally, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Here in the United States, government investigators are also looking into numerous allegations against the Gulen Movement involving: indoctrination, influence operations, salary-kickback schemes, visa system abuse and more.

In fact, the allegations against the Gulen Movement extend all the way to the U.S. Congress. In late October 2015, a USA Today investigation revealed that the Gulen Movement had illegally funded more than 200 trips to Turkey for Members of Congress since 2008. It did so using false disclosure statements that concealed their Gulen sponsorship from both the legislators and the House Ethics Committee, which had been misled into approving member- and/or staff participation in the trips.

Thus, in spite of the Gulen Movement’s carefully projected image of harmony, interfaith dialogue, and tolerance, a far more troubling picture is beginning to emerge that the Center believes warrants a closer look. In praise of this new Center publication, Center for Security Policy President Frank Gaffney said:

In short, the Gulen Movement in Turkey, the United States, and worldwide promotes a far-more problematic program than its adherents would have us believe. It is not a benign cultural and educational institution, or even a billion-plus dollar commercial empire. Rather, it is a prime practitioner of civilization jihad, enabling the spread of the Islamic supremacism’s shariah doctrine under the banner of a Turkey that aspires to renew its role as the Caliphate of the Ottoman empire’s glory days.

U.S school districts, parents and students, federal, state and local governments, media organizations and academic institutions have clearly been successfully targeted by the Gulenists’ influence operations. It is essential that we expose the true nature and civilization jihadist ambitions of Gulen’s taxpayer-subsidized educational empire and the favors its parent movement has deployed – notably, via all-expenses-paid trips to Turkey. This monograph makes an important contribution to that end.

The Center for Security Policy/Secure Freedom is proud to present this monograph as a superb addition to its Civilization Jihad Reader Series. “The Gulen Movement: Turkey’s Islamic Supremacist Cult and Its Contribution to Civilization Jihad in America” is available for purchase in kindle and paperback format on Amazon.com.

Dr. Muhammad Shafiq

Yesterday I posted an essay questioning the moderate credentials of Mohammed Shafiq and Dr. Muhammad Shafiq because of some personal confusion as to the identities of each Shafiq. In that post I cleared my identity confusion.

Dr. Muhammad Shafiq is from Pakistan where he completed his undergraduate work and a Master degree (1974) in Islamic Studies at the University of Peshawar (PU – pun intended). Dr. Shafiq must have attained his BA and MA at PU, but those degrees must have been attained at the PU Islamia College. At Temple University in Philadelphia he received a Religious Studies MA in 1979 and a PhD in 1982.

Paul Sutliff completed his MA at Nazareth College which is the same place Dr. Shafiq is both the Executive Director of the CSID program and is the IIIT representative there as the Radical Muslim organization’s Chair. Mr. Sutliff provided this mini-profile of Dr. Shafiq in an 8/11/12 post:

… According to Dr. Shafiq’s resume (http://www.islamicresourcebank.org/bios/shafiqmuha.htm) (CV) his doctoral advisor was Dr. Ismail Faruqi, who was a founder of IIIT, and was also a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Dr. Faruqi was also a major player in starting the Muslim Student Association (MSA). The MSA is an organization that professes its goals are the establishment of Shariah law and Dawa which is the goal of establishing a Muslim form of government around the world through changing the people within a country that is not under Shariah law.

Dr. Faruqi is known for his coining the phrase, “Islamization of knowledge.” This phrase refers to all knowledge being see in light of Shariah (Islamic Law). This would encourage stopping Bible classes and increasing classes on Islam.

In 2003 on IIIT’s tax form, they reportedly gave $720 to the al-Haramain Islamic Foundation of Ashland, Oregon, which was designated by the U.S. government as a terrorist-funding entity guilty of tax fraud, money laundering, supporting Chechen mujahideen affiliated with al Qaeda, and maintaining “direct links between [its] U.S. branch and Usama bin Laden.”

Knowing this are you asking yourself how can a college enter a relationship with a group that supports terrorism?  My question is what happened to doing research on someone before taking a ton of their money?  But the real question is how do you feel about sending your son or daughter to a college whose ethics allow them to associate with a group that funds terrorists? (I Went to Naz as Nazareth College is; By Paul Sutliff; The Independent Chronicle; 8/11/12)

Now here is an eleven minute video of Dr. Muhammad Shafiq talking of the beautiful stuff of the antichrist religion Islam. While the good professor is sharing that Islam is really love while appreciating Fethullah Gulen’s secretive Hizmet Movement. Gulen is one scary dude that has Western governments convinced he represents an Islamic reform that respects individuals, democratic principles and yet esoterically a purist Islam. As calm and convincing as Dr. Shafiq is, it is obvious by association he is lying through his teeth right in line with the Muslim Brotherhood’s stealth plans for North America (And IMPORTANTLY READ THIS).

VIDEO: (Ep.50) Muhammad Shafiq on Fethullah Gulen and Hizmet (aka the Gulen Movement) (Part I)

Paul Sutliff’s report is about a verbal exchange between himself and Dr. Shafiq. In essence Sutliff calls Dr. Sutliff a liar. So that you don’t think Sutliff was being a harsh Islamophobe you might desire to read the profile of Dr. Shafiq on the last portion of my essay I entitled, “Shafiq and Dr. Shafiq – Moderate Muslims?

Dr. Shafiq vs. Me

By Paul Sutliff

Radio Guest Speaker on the Muslim Brotherhood

Posted September 17, 2014

LinkedIn Page

Last night, Dr. Mohammad Shafiq was a guest speaker at St. John’s on Humboldt Street. He was invited to talk about ISIS. He talked for a little over 45 minutes. But only addressed ISIS for a total of 14 minutes. Another speaker who was a Presbyterian minister called Shafiq his teacher also spoke on the topic.

Dr. Shafiq started the conversation by explaining what ISIS means. This was interesting considering an Arabic Muslim stated that it meant, “the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.” But, Shafiq then stated the name in Arabic saying “Sham.” Dr. Shafiq never shared how the name Sham is used by our President to mean an area much broader than Syria. He did however explain what Levant means listing the countries it would cover today. He however, neglected to state that it refers to Ottoman Caliphate in a pre WWI term that ignores the existence of Israel labeling the area as under Islamic rule.

Dr. Shafiq revealed that in the 1980s he gave speeches on jihad for which he was sorry. He mentioned Philadelphia as being one place he gave such a speech. There was a meeting in Philadelphia of the Muslim Brotherhood during this time.

Shafiq stated that Bin-Laden believed in a literal interpretation of koran, but never stated if that was the standard of all of Islam. Which is true. Dr. Shafiq also stated that Bin-Laden worked for the CIA. He claimed that the Taliban were not terrorists, and slipped and used the term innocent as part of his reasoning. Dr. Shafiq did state that Al-Qaeda was in Iraq when America went in.

Shafiq spoke of how the Saudis came to power crediting the British for giving them power for fighting the Ottoman Turks. He also made statements that implied Wahaabi [or Wahhabi] Islam had no relation or connection to the al-Saud family. Shafiq went off topic and spoke of giving a speech, which may have been in Saudi Arabia and that a friend feared him being arrested.

He stated repeatedly that the reason the US was attacked on 9/11 was US policy of interference.

Time for questions came. After a few people raised their hands I made sure Shafiq could see that I had brought the Reliance of the Traveller. The second he saw it, to talk louder, much louder. When I had a chance to ask a question, I stated that I had heard the presbyterian minister make the statement we should condemn the actions of ISIS, but I had not heard Shafiq do so. Shafiq responded he said we should pray for them. I responded that is not condemning them. ONLY THEN he stated I condemn the actions of ISIS. I said, “good taqiyya.” Then I explained he is lying to you. I informed the people that he had told them many things which are true but left much out so they would not have a grasp as to why ISIS is doing what it is doing. I then lifted up the Reliance the Traveller and encouraged people to buy it if they really want to know what Dr. Shafiq believes. I named IIIT as part of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Muslim Student Association as part of it. He stated that was not true. I replied Steve Emerson one of the foremost experts on Counter-terrorism who testifies before Congress has written about this. Then I stated what was the Muslim Brotherhood doing in Egypt? They were killing Christians and Jews. You have invited someone to speak to you about those who are killing Christians and Jews when IIIT, is part of the Muslim Brotherhood, which has done the same thing in Egypt!

Dr. Shafiq made a statement later that he had never read Al-Misri, Reliance of the Traveller, to which I said you are lying. He wanted to hug me. I said I do not hug people I do not trust! He did want to talk more. I said only if in a public place as I do not trust you. I asked Shafiq if he wanted sharia. He said no. I said Dr. Shafiq you are part of organizations that publically have stated they want sharia here. You are lying again.

I am thinking of challenging him to a public debate at the college. Me a nobody vs. the great Shafiq! I think it is something he will not pass up.

Dr. Shafiq vs. Me

Edited [without permission] by John R. Houk

Any text enclosed in brackets are by the Editor. As the Editor of this blog I did not capitalize words I normally would; however I change one inaccurate preposition and I never have observed the spelling “Wahaabi” and so I added in brackets my most familiar spelling which is “Wahhabi”. As a reader though Arabic can often be transliterated in many English forms. ALSO after I had already began checking this story I did discover that author wrote and post a re-edit of his own entitled “Confronting the Islamist, Dr. Shafiq who was asked to speak on ISIS”. I stuck with Mr. Sutliff’s LinkedIn version because that is the first version I had read and I had used the LinkedIn version as a premise for my own post because I was confused by Mr. Sutliff’s spelling of Dr. Shafiq’s first name. On LinkedIn Mr. Sutliff used the spelling “Mohammed” rather than “Muhammad”. In looking at the research I discovered there is also a noted Moderate Brit Muslim that goes by the spelling Mohammed Shafiq. The more I read about Mo Shafiq the more I realized he was entirely different than the Dr. Muhammad Shafiq Paul Sutliff had referred. Ergo I spent a whole post on my blog differentiating Mohammed Shafiq the Brit Muslim from Dr. Muhammad Shafiq of Nazareth College located in Rochester, NY.

Purchase “Stealth Jihad Phase 2: Infiltrating American Colleges” at Amazon. Published in paperback August 5, 2013 – Amazon description:

Is the Muslim Brotherhood alive and well on your college campus? Why should I care if they are? Isn’t the Muslim Brotherhood just a bunch of Muslims getting together to worship Allah? Just Who are the Muslim Brotherhood groups on college campuses? What do I do they are here? This book was written to answer these questions so you can take action. You are responsible for what you know!

And here is an interesting bio blurb that indicates Paul Sutliff holds a Master in Education from whence Dr. Muhammad Shafiq is a professor – Nazareth College:

Paul Sutliff has a BA in Religion and Philosophy from Roberts Wesleyan College and an Masters in Education from Nazareth College of Rochester. He is active in his local 912 group, “We Surround Rochester,” which he states awakened him to the Muslim Brotherhood’s presence at Nazareth. Paul also runs the Independent Chronicle, a small news source available on the web and in a hand out format. He considers himself an average American who is just waking up to what is happening around him. Paul wrote Stealth Jihad Phase 2, because his father once told him you are responsible for what you know. The question he asks is what will you do with what you learn from this book?

The Real Islam – Ask ACT

Real Islam - Bomb Fuse

I believe in the function ACT for America does for America non-Muslims in providing education on the dark side Islam. The dark side of Islam is the purist theo-political ideology that looks at the literal example of Mohammed and the earliest years of the Islamic writings contained in the Quran, Hadith and Sira. Many pundits and critics of purist Islam try to stay the politically correct path by labeling this look backward as Radical Islam which supposed to be a contrast to Moderate Islam. Allegedly the Moderates are supposed to be propagators of an Islam that is spiritual and peaceful directing adherents to Allah. The reality is so-called Moderates are oft times Radical Muslim wolves in sheep’s clothing OR Moderates are Muslims that ignore and/or are in denial of the atrocities of Islam’s past.

ACT for America is dedicated to expose Islam’s dark side which too many label as Radical Islam. ACT even has provided and educational curriculum to counter the propaganda of Muslim Apologists that go out of their way to obfuscate and hide the real Islam from the non-Muslims they call kafir.

ACT has sent an email that is really a recruiting project to get ACT for America Chapter members and for those interested in the ACT mission to attend the national convention being held in early June. Regardless of the intent of the email, Brigitte Gabriel utilizes two examples on how ACT educational material made a difference on a local School District basis.

Below is that email. Become inspired and if you desire a better understanding of Islam’s interaction with non-Muslims is essentially a human and civil rights disenfranchisement.

Profiles in Courage

President, ACT! for America

·       “Success is not final, failure not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.” Winston Churchill

·       “Freedom lies in being bold.” Robert Frost

·       “Courage is found in unlikely places.” J.R.R. Tolkien

·       “Courage and perseverance have a magical talisman, before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into air.” John Quincy Adams

·       “We must substitute courage for caution.” Martin Luther King, Jr.

My friend, we are at a crossroads.

We all know America faces challenges and problems on many, many fronts. We can choose to throw up our hands in despair and give up.

Or we can draw strength from those who have faced great challenges, and steadfastly determine to re-double our efforts.

Just this week, two little-noticed events occurred, one on the East Coast, one on the West Coast, that remind us what can happen if we persevere, if we don’t give up, if we have courage.

In Washington state, one of our top chapter leaders helped a student with a report on Islam. In doing so, this chapter leader, using the ACT! for America Education textbook report, pointed out errors in how the student’s textbook treated Islam.

This student had the courage to give this report to the principal and point out the flawed textbook. Imagine that! A student in effect saying to a principal, “this textbook has errors.”

The principal read the student’s report—and decided to remove the offending textbook!

Profiles in courage. The student—and the principal.

In Northern Virginia, ACT! for America grassroots activists bombarded a local school board with emails and phone calls opposing an application for a charter school. Many showed up at the school board meeting.

The charter school applicants are affiliated with the Gulen movement, a huge global Islamist movement led by a man named Fethullah Gulen. A movement that the publication “Jane’s Islamic Affairs Analyst” called “Turkey’s third power… a powerful political movement…”

The school board voted 8 – 1 to deny the application.

As one ACT! for America chapter leader put it, referring to the Gulen charter school applicants, “no one’s been able to stop them—until now.”

Profiles in courage. The ACT! for America concerned citizens and the school board, who all risked being called “Islamophobes.”

On Thursday evening, June 20th, during our National Conference & Legislative Briefing gala banquet, we will honor three “profiles in courage.”

You need to be there if it’s humanly possible.

Because we all need inspiration now and then.

We all need encouragement.

We all need to be reminded that we can prevail.

We all need to be reminded that we’re not fighting the good fight alone.

These two victories above illustrate what ACT! for America is all about. Most people will never know they happened. But we do.

And with every victory, great or small, noticed or unnoticed, we are turning the tide against the threat of radical Islam.

A tide that has overwhelmed Europe and the United Kingdom because too few people had the courage, clarity and perseverance to resist.

This is not the time to surrender to despair, discouragement, or hopelessness.

This is the time to recognize that, when it comes to the threat of radical Islam here in America, we are prevailing.

If you are one of those who is more determined than ever, we need you at the national conference. We need to draw from your strength.

If you are one of those who needs encouraging, you need to be there with us.

Because we’re all in this together.

Like everyone else, there are days I battle discouragement. One of the ways I overcome that is just being around faithful ACT! for America supporters. Their spirit is electric, and contagious.

So please join us on June 19 – 21.

Because now is not the time to give up or give in.

Now is the time for courage.

Always devoted,

Brigitte Gabriel
