Christians Staged Protest against the Killing of Christian MPA

Christian Pakistanis Protest Murder of Handery Masih Baloch

Shamim Masih sent an update on the murder of Handery Masih who was killed by his own bodyguard. This update pertains to Christians in Pakistan protesting the murder. In a large part I am certain the protest is happening because the Muslim police in Pakistan tend to ignore crimes against Christians.

Christians Staged Protest against the Killing of Christian MPA

By Shamim Masih

Sent: 6/16/2014 11:58 PM

ISLAMABAD: Christian community staged a protest against the brutal killing of a minority Member of the Provisional Assembly (MPA) in front of National Press Club, Islamabad.

According to details, Samuel Yaqoob, a human right activist led a protest against the killing of the minority MPA in front of National Press Club, Islamabad. Talking to the media he said that since the PML (N) is in power, Pakistani minorities [live] under a threat, they feel unsafe under this government.   Joseph Colony and Gojra culprits are still rooming about [in Christian minds]. Now since the PML (N) is ruling the party and a Christian MPA is killed right under the nose of the Baluchistan government, [Samuel Yaqoob has] demanded the government to take the necessary measures to protect Pakistani Christians. A constitution of Pakistan gives equal rights to minorities but this [has not and] is not implemented. Last time, the government announces a 5% quota for the religious minorities [to have representation] but practically it is not implemented, he added.

Handery Masih, a member of the Baluchistan Assembly, was shot dead in Quetta on Saturday. Political leaders including Khursheed Shah and Shahbaz Sharif chief minister Punjab, strongly condemned Handery’s assassination. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has earlier strongly condemned the murder and ordered the Baluchistan government to take strict action against the culprits.

It is a common practice in Pakistan that commercial activities around the country come to a standstill [gripped with] fear and tension, but since a minority MPA [has been] killed, no major protest was observed in the country. [This] shows that the Christian community is divided into small groups. Until they join hands together, they cannot achieve anything like rights and equality.

Be Blessed,

Shamim Masih

All Saints Church in Peshawar is Under Attack

Peshawar Pakistan 2

I just posted a Shamim Masih article about the corrupt political system in Pakistan that discriminates minorities with a focus on Christian-Pakistanis. As I was going through my emails I discovered Shamim had sent some news info about two Islamic Terrorist homicidal suicide bombers detonating themselves in an over 100 year old Christian Church killing and maiming Christian-Pakistanis.

Shamim was not privy to all the details by the time he sent the story to me. It has been discovered that the homicidal suicide bombers were the Taliban. The very group of Islamic terrorists that Pakistan’s government has been openly trying to negotiate a political peace because the political party running the show won their election based on demonizing the USA’s Global War on Terrorism (you know – the war that Obama says we are not fighting).

All Saints Church in Peshawar is Under Attack

By Shamim Masih

Sent: 9/22/2013 12:58 PM

Peshawar: The Sunday Church Service at All Saints Church in Peshawar ended in heartbreak as two suicide bombers blew themselves up while the Sunday service just ended. [The explosion] killed more than 90 worshipers, 34 of them women, 7 children and more than 110 were injured. According to the Minister of Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan the situation is different but Church sources said the death toll is expected to rise as many of the injured are in a critical condition. [The] interior minister said that the government would bear the cost of rebuilding the damaged church and declared three days mourning. Many other organizations announced the same. Peshawer blast Christian Victims

Peshawar [is the] capital city of KPK province, 188 Km away from the capital Islamabad. All Saints Memorial Church was its distinctive Saracen architecture first opened for service in December 1983 [Editor: I am guessing Shamim meant 1883 – See Also HERE]. The church is located in Kohati gate, an inner city area of the city. The church capacity is about 500 – 600 and usually the gathering is around [that number]. After the church service on Sunday, a person blows himself up and little later another man did the same thing. The blast shattered the glass panes of the nearby houses. Police said that the terrorists opened fire at the security guards at the entrance of the church, possibly killing one. The security’s agency said it was a suicide bombing [and] no group has as yet taken responsibility for this [Editor: As of this posting it is reported it was the Taliban]. They said each of the bombers was carrying eight kg of explosives. The federal government has decided to tighten the security for minorities and the institutions after this incident.

As the country was staggered by the latest bomb blast and Christians all around the country came on the roads to protest against it. Sohail Johnson, chairman Sharing Life Ministry Pakistan lead the protest rally in Lahore in front of the press club, Lahore and in Youhanabad and went to Peshawar city with his group. He said that he is going to provide them with medicine and food items as required. Bishop Yaqoob Paul also participated in the protest rally. Nadeem Anthony Advocate High Court, Yousaf Kamran, Human Rights Activist, Christian Protest Church BombingShaleem Yousaf, social activists also participated in protest rally in Lahore.

Albert David chairman Pakistan United Christian Movement left for Peshawar as soon as he heard about this sad incident. Tahir Naveed Chaudhry condemned the blast and said protection of minorities is a central duty of the state but unfortunately it didn’t do [such protection]. Protest rally was [centered] around the condemnation of the bombing in Islamabad/Rawalpindi as well, Samuel Yaqoob led this rally.

Dr. Paul Bhatti left for Peshawar and strongly condemned the bomb blast and said that terrorists have no religion. He expressed solidarity with the families injured.

Pakistani-Christians Don’t have Right to Protest…

pakistan-blasphemy-protest

Shamim Masih is a Pakistani Christian that is both a journalist and Human Rights activist. He has been giving me an on the scene perspective of Islamic Supremacism in action in Pakistan of the crazy persecution of Christians at the hand of Muslims that erupted when a vengeful minded Muslim decided to take issue with his (I am guessing former) drinking companion with Christian roots. The Muslim former drinking buddy cried to a Muslim Cleric that Sawan Masih had blasphemed the Muslim Prophet Mohammed. The Cleric called for action that led to the massive destruction of Joseph Colony Christian homes and the Church at the Christian community.

Shamim has updated me that the Muslim Supremacism is continuing with Muslim agitators threatening Christian protesters with harm and murder if they continue to protest against Islamic Supremacist persecution of Christians.

Pakistani-Christians Don’t have Right to Protest Against the Misuse of Blasphemy Law

By Shamim Masih

Sent: 3/14/2013 3:32 PM

Islamabad Pakistan (Shamim Masih): Hundreds Pakistani Christians become homeless in Badami Bagh, Lahore. 200 homes of Joseph Colony were turned to ashes and poor Christians are sitting in the streets, looking for food and their needs. Their children couldn’t attend their school and colleges since last Friday. They are helpless and unable to do anything for themselves, while Christians around the country stood to become their voice but were severely beaten by police in Youhanabad and Kot Lakhpat, Lahore. There were protests in Islamabad/Rawalpindi as well. But Muslims of Jhelam City threaten to burn the Christians home like Joseph Colony Lahore, when they went to protest to show solidarity with other Christians.

According to sources, on March 12, 2013, when Christians of Jhelam city went to protest against the violence in Joseph Colony, chanting slogans “Repeal Blasphemy Law” and “Blasphemy law is Black Law”. The Islamists announced in Mosque loudspeakers to gather to punish those Christians who called Blasphemy law to be a black law during the protest. The radical Muslims pressured area police station to lodge First Investigation Report – FIR under 295-C PPC under blasphemy law against Christians who chanted slogans against blasphemy law.

Basharat Khokhar, a human rights activist told that there were around 26 Christian families living among Muslim masses, Machine 2 mahallah since partition. The local Christians arranged a protest to show their solidarity with the Christians of Joseph Colony, Lahore. And Mr. George Masih led the protest rally. They got permission from the District Police Officer (DPO) who provided them security. There were 250 people in the protest rally. The next day, Muslims demanded the police to arrest George Masih and to register FIRJoseph Francis - CLAAS Director Pakistan against him. The situation became tense in the city but fortunately the administration involved both the religious leadership and Joseph Francis [CLAAS Profile] from CLAAS [Introduction Page] intervened to solve the issue.

There is another mishap, according to Pastor Naeem Bhadhar, a Presbyterian missionary living in a village KALASWALA, Pasroor Road, district Sialkot, 140 km away from Lahore city. He told me on the telephone that he had arranged a protest rally in their city but today on 14th March, 2013, as he was travelling back to his village, a few radical Muslims from Jammat ut Dawa (a Muslim organization) [Background info HERE and HERE] had severely beaten him with sticks and broke his motor bike. He was injured and was taken to the hospital. There Pastor Bhadhar got 3 stitches on his left arm. They warned him if any one of the Christians came to protest they will kill them.

This is how peace loving Muslims treat Christians in Pakistan. It’s time to wake up and to raise a voice for the rights.

Be Blessed,

Shamim Masih

Protest in Islamabad

Protesters - Christian and Human Rights Activist - about Joseph Colony 3-9-13

Here is an update from Shamim Masih relating to the Muslim rampage against Christians at Joseph Colony just outside Lahore, Pakistan. The rampage and pillaging of Joseph Colony was the result of Islamic intolerance of Sawan Masih saying something about Mohammed undoubtedly in a negative light. Or perhaps Sawan said nothing negatively about Mo and a Muslim or two decided to settle an argument by taking advantage of Pakistan’s Blasphemy Laws. Thank God I live in a nation in which the Constitution says I have Free Speech and that Congress cannot make a law in which one religion is superior to another religion.

Protest in Islamabad

Christians of Islamabad/Rawalpindi staged protest against Badami Bagh incident

Islamabad Pakistan (Shamim Masih): Christians of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, on receiving the news regarding Badami Bagh tragic incident, cancelled all their engagements and immediately convened an emergent meeting about this incident.

Later, Christians’ human rights activists, member civil society staged a protest at National Press Club, Islamabad. They were holding banners and shout slogans against on the attack on the poor Christians of Joseph Colony, Lahore.

Basharat Khokhar, a human rights activist said that the ugly fact is that the blasphemy law is an enabler of mob violence against vulnerable groups. As long as such laws remain on the books and the authorities remain unwilling or unable to rein in mobs playing judge, jury and executioner, Pakistan will remain plagued by abuse in the name of religion, he added.

Samuel Yaqoob urged the Punjab Government to investigate and prosecute as appropriate campaigns of intimidation, threats, and violence against Christian and other vulnerable groups.

Be Blessed,

Shamim Masih, Tahir-ul-Qadri and Christian-Pakistani Rights

Tahir-ul-Qadri 2

Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri

John R. Houk

© January 17, 2013

Shamim Masih is a freelance journalist who is a Pakistani-Christian. It is through his post submissions about the plight of Christians in Pakistan that has provided me lenses to view Pakistan. Those lenses are important because is one of the few nations that the American media has reported persecution of Christians. Those reports though are still sketchy on the Pakistan Christian population in general. American media reports too often ignore the persecution of Christians as a whole and focus on individual Christians who have been the victim of Pakistan’s Sharia Law inspired Blasphemy Laws. When a Christian is convicted of breaking a Blasphemy Statute it typically is for being insulting to the Islamic religion or perhaps a Muslim converting away from Islam into the Redeemed life of a Christian. In Islam and in Pakistan the penalty for breaking these Blasphemy Laws is typically a death sentence.

Shamim is a part of a Christian Pakistan movement that seeks greater civil rights for the Christian minority in Pakistan. Christianity is a very small minority in Pakistan. Shamim’s activism for Christians has followed a multi-faith path. If you have read any of my posts about Islam you would be aware that I am not a fan of the religion called Islam. Because of Islam’s theology that actively promotes Muslims to regard non-Muslims as societal pariahs that are only fit for strained toleration. In Muslim majority societies a non-Muslim suffers egregiously for breaking Islamic theo-political rules or laws.

This is just a guess: I sense Shamim has chosen the multi-faith path to bring greater civil rights to Pakistani-Christians is because of a view that the only way toward greater Liberty is with Muslim agreement. Pakistan is littered with what Americans call Radical Muslims. These are the Muslims that take a purist view of the Quran, Hadith and Sira which apart from converting people to Islam is to humiliate or kill those that refuse to convert.

Pakistan was established as a secular Islamic republic at the inception of its nationhood in 1947. As the years have distanced itself from 1947 Pakistan has become more and more entrenched in the purist Islamic thought that revolves around the theo-political jurisprudence of Sharia Law.

Shamim has sent a news piece in which Pakistani-Christians have been led to protest political corruption as local and national elections draw near. These protests have been led by a Muslim with dual citizenship from Canada and Pakistan – Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri. Apparently Qadri has lived the last seven years in Pakistan.

Qadri is a man that a little controversy has followed in the West. Check out this excerpt on how Qadri speaks to English speaking people and along the same theme to Urdu speaking people:

Outside Pakistan, Qadri is often been presented as a “moderate” Sufi scholar who famously wrote a 600 page fatwa against terrorism in 2010 which won him international applause.  However while his work to counter extremists has brought him his share of admirers, there hangs a question mark over the extent of Qadri’s own moderating influence. For example one video doing the rounds over the internet shows Qadri giving what appear to be two contradictory statements on blasphemy – the subject of so much controversy in Pakistan. In one clip he is shown speaking in English where he says: “Whatever the law of blasphemy is, it is not applicable on non-Muslims. It is not applicable on Jews, Christians and other non- Muslims minorities. It is just to be dealt with Muslims.” Yet then in Urdu in a different clip he says:  “My stance was that, and this was the law which got made, that whoever commits blasphemy, whether a Muslim or a non-Muslim, man or woman – whether be a Muslim, Jew, Christian, Hindu, anyone –  whoever commits blasphemy their punishment is death.” (Who is Islamic cleric Dr. Tahir ul-Qadri? And why should Pakistan care? By Syed Hamad Ali; The Independent, 16 January 2013)

Even with this bit of controversy Qadri is demonstrating a sincere concern for Christian minorities by organizing a series of protests against Pakistani government corruption. The Pakistan government is not pleased with Tahir-ul-Qadri:

Thousands of protesters led by Barelvi cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri rallied in Pakistan’s capital for the third straight day, giving the government until Wednesday night to resign and dissolve the national and provincial assemblies.

The government hit back by issuing warrants to arrest Qadri and 70 others for attacking police, and announced it was determined to complete its five-year term and hold elections only by May. (Qadri thunders, Pak govt shows arrest warrant; by REZAUL H LASKAR & M ZULQERNAIN, The Indian Express, Jan 17 2013, 01:43 hrs)

I don’t know Qadri’s motivation for helping downtrodden Christians; however Shamim seems to write in a positive manner about him. For all the mistrust I have for the religion of Islam, if Tahir-ul-Qadri manages to effect change for the civil rights of Pakistani-Christians I say AMEN.

Might be of interest: Rehman Malik angers Pakistan Christians, says Tahir-ul-Qadri acting like ‘semi-Pope’ (1/17/13)

Insensitivity of Pakistani Christian politicians and civil society leaders

By Shamim Masih

Sent: January 17, 2013 8:58 AM

ISLAMABAD PAKISTAN – SHAMIM MASIH:

Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri a Muslim religious scholar from Lahore has mobilized about 50,000 devoted followers coming from the lower middle class for a sit-in of the main Jinnah Avenue of Islamabad.  Remarkably, the men, women and children have remained steadfast in this protest rally under extremely harsh winter weather conditions without any shelter.

The Christian protestors are demanding reforms in the electoral system to bring in transparency in the forthcoming general elections and elimination of corrupt practices among the ambitious politicians and parties.  So far, Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri has fairly succeeded in winning the attention of all political players who have recognized the demands of holding free and fair elections through some constitutional reforms.

The Present regime is tense while handling the protest rally on one hand and anxious in fighting judicial proceedings against its stalwarts for mass scale corruption, on the other hand.  The provincial capital of Peshawar is also in the grip of police firing to maintain law and order facing another protest rally against target killings.  Earlier the provincial government in Baluchistan went into [imposed] Governor’s rule after failing to address another issue of target killings of the Hazara tribal Shias.

In the wake of the above critical situations, a criminal silence and a careless attitude of Christian leadership in the country is alarming.  Pakistani Christians express their deep concern for continuation of peace and harmony not only in Pakistan but in the whole world.  There have been many wake-up calls, but Pakistani Christian politicians have gone into a long snooze. The cases of Bishop John Joseph, Shantinagar, Gojra, Asia Bibi and Rimsha are an example of Christian leaders’ callousness.

The local Christian politicians have been making money on the pretext of safeguarding minority rights but these financial resources are being used in getting positions in other political parties instead spending those funds for achieving Christian unity.  Some of them, as Christian representatives, have been a part of the constitutional assembly which approved the blasphemy law and they kept quiet at that time.  Now, we have few Christians political parties registered to contest general elections but have no contact with the Christian community and have not shown any seriousness in guarding Christians’ rights and are rather busy in making deals with major Muslim parties.

When all other parties, groups and organizations can put their heads together and be unanimous on the solutions, why can’t Pakistani Christians sit together for their rights?  Instead of pronouncing moral judgments on everything and anything, why can’t Pakistani Christians stand altogether for their welfare?

It is high time that we define our role as conscious Christians and respect our rights for the better future of Christians in Pakistan.

Be Blessed,

Shamim Masih
